Saying Goodbye to Summer

Going way back to the 80's.  Living the life.  Strolling my home beach...Morningstar Beach at The Frenchman's Reef in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.  Wearing a lavender one-piece bathing suit that needed to be pulled up at the top!

Summer's almost over y'all!  Hope you can enjoy one more trip to the beach.  I'll be working hard this weekend putting away all my white pants, white shoes, and white pocketbooks.  You can read my "After Labor Day Fashion Rules" here.  I'm excited about Autumn!

Name Badge Etiquette

Recently, I saw this photo of Bethany, the author of Maryland Pink and Green blog, photographed with a friend...I was pleasantly surprised {and commented so} that they were both wearing their name badges in the proper place!

And later, I saw this photo of Miss Sarah Gould Long {in the middle} with 2 of her sorority sisters on Bid Day at The University of Alabama.  Sarah is from my hometown of Augusta and is the author of
Too Much is Never Enough blog.  How cute is she y'all?!  Again, I commented on this photo on Instagram...as an etiquette consultant, I do appreciate when people practice proper name badge etiquette!

Children should be taught at a young age that your name badge should be worn on your right shoulder.

I know that most employers require their employees wear name badges on the left shoulder, but this is incorrect...Etiquette dictates the badges be placed on the right shoulder!

The reason for this is that when we extend our right hand {always the right hand} for a handshake, our eye automatically goes in the direction of the other person's right hand.

...because you step out on your right foot, extend your right hand, look at the person's name, make eye contact and introduce yourself.

Not sure how to write a name badge?  Robert Hickey, Deputy Director of the Protocol School of Washington is the author of Honor and Respect, The Official Guide to Names, Titles, and Forms of Address.  He explains here how to make sure your badges are written in the proper form.  A link to order this book may be found under my "Recommendations" page.

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Child...

Love it or hate it...the premiere show of "Honey Boo Boo" scored #1 in its time slot with 2.2 million viewers.  While some love the show, others detest everything about it!  Social media is all in a tizzy over this show.  I must admit, that just like the show "Hoarders," I just can't look away!

As a fan of "Toddlers and Tiaras," I remember when 6 year-old Alana Thompson was featured last year on the show--where really little girls strut their stuff on stage to win crowns, money, and the coveted "Ultimate Grand Supreme" title.  While usually 3 children are featured each week, Honey Boo Boo was an instant standout, which got her to her own show "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo!"

Lord have mercy y'all, Honey Boo Boo is NOT your typical child beauty queen.

Honey Boo Boo's usual Glam Pageant "Outfit of the Day":   Age-inappropriate makeup, lots of sequins, and hair "Jacked up to Jesus"

Here is Honey Boo Boo with her coupon-queen Mama June.  Honey lives with her family in rural McIntyre, Georgia...population 700.  The family home is filled with bargains Mama June buys with coupons to help save money to finance Honey's pageant fees!

Here is little Miss Honey with her Dance Coach Amanda Carter.

Now y'all might wonder if Honey Boo Boo and I have anything in common?  Well, I certainly wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth.  Like Miss Honey, I was raised in Georgia and have met my share of little girls just like her!

Honey and I both love our pets...mine is a Yorkie named "Coco" who wears clothes that match mine and Honey's pet is a pig named "Glitzy" who wears a tiara.  I can't judge.

Like Miss Janice, Honey also has her own "Signature Beverage!"  She calls it her "Go-Go Juice," a mixture of Mountain Dew and Red Bull.  {This is not good Miss Honey}  Neither are those pixie stick straws--aka "Pageant Crack" which Honey puts down during pageant time...they are full of powdered candy that is mostly sugar.

In an upcoming episode, Honey travels to Warner Robins, Georgia with former Miss Georgia, Michaela Lackey.  They dined at one of my favorite sandwich shops near Mama's house.--McCall's.   This place has the BEST cakes and Honey sampled the Pina Colada, Chocolate Caramel, and Bananna Pudding Cakes...all favorites of mine!

I love beauty pageants y'all.  Always have.  From Toddlers and Tiaras to the Mrs. Senior America...I love them all.  What I would really love to do???  I would love to travel to McIntyre and meet with Honey Boo Boo and her family to teach them social and dining etiquette.

Remember, good manners will open doors that money or the best education cannot!

Prissy Southern Giveaway!

Back in 1979 Miss Charleston, Jan Jenkins Herlong became Miss South Carolina.  She's a Lowcountry South Carolina farm girl who went from bare feet to high heels to compete in the Miss America Pageant.  Jane came from a meager background and was literally the farmer's daughter.  Diagnosed at a young age with dyslexia, she was also told that she wasn't very pretty.

Well, bless her heart, 'cuz she ended up walking the runway in the Miss America pageant...looking ever-so beautiful in a hot pink one-piece!

Jane's official Miss America portrait.  What an exciting time in her life this must have been!

Today Jane is a professional speaker, professional singer, recording artist {her singing is aired regularly on Blue Collar Sirius Xm Radio}, and author.  My late BF Teresa Jane designed Jane's website and and gave me her book Bare Feet to High Heels.

I enjoyed Jane's book so much, I decided to buy her CD's for my roadtrip to Georgia!
Bury me with my Pearls

Don't throw tomatoes at my field of dreams

Down-home Principles, Uptown Humor

You can order Jane's CDs and books here.
OR, you can enter to win the 3 CD's featured above from Miss Janice!  I so enjoyed Jane's prissy Southern humor and now would love to pass these on to someone who might appreciate the same. {I'm not parting with my book 'cuz my late BF Teresa Jane gave it to me and it's autographed by Jane}.
All you have to do to enter is leave a comment telling me you would like to win the CD's.  I will draw for the winner tomorrow at 6pm.  Good luck y'all!

If I Were Still in School...

The other day I was riding down the escalator at Dillard's and had to snap a photo of the display featuring pink lockers!  My iPhone didn't capture the color very well...they are hot pink and so cute!

I'm so jealous that school girls today have so many options available to decorate their lockers.  I would totally decorate my locker.  Check out some of the darling locker accessories I found online...

A chandelier for my locker?  Yes ma'am!  How cute is this precious chandelier that is motion-sensored and runs off  of batteries?!  You can find these in pink and other colors here.

Then I'd buy some of this precious pink polka dot wallpaper.

Oh my Lord...these prissy curtains!

A cute little polka dot frame mirror...'cuz you gotta primp!

Now y'all know my school supplies would have to be cute also!  Lilly pens:)

And Lilly highlighter pens...LOVE these!
Must-have Lilly notebooks.

I'd keep a stash of my favorite Lilly 'Wink' parfum spray inside the locker.

Of course, my monogram would be on the outside of the door!

How sweet would it be?  Dreaming!

Throwback Thursday

This photo was taken by the pool at a hotel in Nice, France in the mid 80's.  I absolutely hate flying since September 2011, but I do believe I would down a tranquilizer to get on a plane bound for France.  I absolutely love the French and the Italian Riviera.  If husband hits lottery...summer home in France!

I hope that y'all were able to travel to a special place this summer and that you made memories that will last for a lifetime!

The Wrist Stack

Road trip to Georgia outfit of the day.  "Here's What I Wore."  The skirt is pink 'Hibiscus Gingham' by Lilly, a pink Lilly tee, and pink Lilly flower thongs--all old school Lilly...my favorite!

'Cuz on Wednesdays We Wear Pink!

I carried my Nantucket 'Lightship' pocketbook.

I bought these thongs when I lived in California 10 years ago...I just can't let them go.

"Here's What Miss Coco Wore"  Her pink 'Coco' monogrammed bandana was custom-made for her by  LWhelanDesigns.  {Mama's wearing ric-rac, so Coco had to wear ric-rac also!}  Of course, her top knot is adorned with a pink bow!  She just got a puppy cut on Friday so she could stay cool for the trip!

So let's talk about wrist stacks y'all!  Everybody's stacking bracelets, watches, and bangles on their wrist.  Well, Miss Janice is having a little difficulty with this fad.  No matter what I stack, it just doesn't look right on me.  The fact that my wrists are so tiny does not help either.  I've tried on some darling bangles by Lilly Pulitzer and Tory Burch but they just fall right off my wrist.  Boo hiss!

So today, I'm adorning my wrist with a Barry Beaux Lilly-fied wrist bow.  Made from Lilly Pulitzer fabric, these bows fasten with velcro and they are the perfect solution for us girls who have very small wrists.

I tried creating some stacks...not sure how I like them.  Take a peek...
The Church-Appropriate Stack

A Lilly 'Sailor bracelet' and a Rolex

I feel a bit strange stacking anything with my gold Rolex...okay, maybe a 'Love' bracelet.

Two Chanel charm bracelets and a Rolex.  This is as layered as I'm gonna get y'all!

A 'Love' bracelet, a Rolex, and a 'Bit' bracelet

A Tiffany bracelet, a Rolex, and a monogram bangle.

So what about y'all?  Are y'all fans for the Wrist Stack...aka Wrist Party, Arm Bling, Wrist Candy?

Packing for the Road Trip to Mama's

This morning I'm off to Mama's house in Georgia.  I promise y'all that it takes me a week to get ready to go out of town and a week to get my stuff organized upon my return home.  I'm so high maintenance!

I'm still on my "Clean Living Diet" so I have to pack my road trip lunch...no fast food for moi.  I stuck my monogram on the plastic container lid cover and my Lilly 'Coral Me Crazy' water bottle is also monogrammed!  The decals are from 2PreppyGirls.

Lunch:  Tuna salad, avocado, and mini triscuits...with cold water.

The Lilly 'Later Gator' lunch tote is perfect for road trips.

Of course, my new prissy cooler is making the trip!

I still love to use my Vera Bradley "Elizabeth" {retired} garment bag and overnight bag, along with my Lands' End monogrammed tote.

I still love this pattern after all these years!

Y'all know I have to tie my calling cards onto everything with a yellow gingham ribbon bow!

I'm looking forward to spending a few weeks with my sweet Mama!  Thanks for visiting with me today.

Prissy and Preppy Personal Cooler

I'm so excited that my monogrammed painted cooler arrived just in time for a road trip to Mama's house.  Painted coolers are all the rage now and I've searched all over the internet for one I could use for road trips or to carry to the beach.  This one is a 12-quart personal size and perfect for my needs.  Sav at Suit Your Fancy Creations did a fabulous job!

Sav offers various Lilly Pulitzer pattern designs, sports team images, and pretty much whatever you desire to showcase on your cooler.  Since I change my mind so often, I decided to go with no pattern...just pink on the bottom and lime green on the top.  I simply adore this cooler!

Of course, I was totally sold with the monogram and pearls!  This is ever-so prissy and still preppy and cute!

Sav will hand-paint a personal cooler for you into whatever design suits your fancy.  They are painted with acrylic paint, sealed twice, and then sprayed with a water-resistant sealer.

Take a peek at just a few of the options:

A Lilly design...

Love this design...

And, you don't have to add the pearls...

These coolers would make a great gift for students going away to college.  Have the cooler painted with their monogram and stuff it with goodies for their dorm/apartment!  Oh-so cute y'all!
