Lilly Photo of the Week

Don't y'all just love looking at the way other people look in their cute outfits? Miss Janice does! So, I'm starting a new weekly post entitled "The Lilly Photo of the Week." Beginning today, I am asking y'all to send me your photos--wearing your Lilly. You may send a photo of yourself, your child, another family member, a neighbor, etc. Just please include a short note about the outfit, occasion, or any other information you would like published.

I discovered the featured photo this week over at the Lilly Facebook page. The young lady is Leisa Eastman. She is the wife of Dr. Edward Eastman and mother to Max and Wade. Just look at her posing in the 60's-inspired "Fiesta" dress from the Jubilee collection. She definitely looks smokin' hot, while still remaining very classy! Leisa said that the moment she saw this dress, she fell in love! She chose to wear the darling dress to a wedding in Destin, Florida and her friend, who is also her hairdresser, styled her hair in a 60's style updo. She definitely deserves to be featured in my first-ever "Lilly Photo of the Week," don't y'all think?!

Thank you Leisa for joining in the fun...you are definitely workin' that Lilly!

Please send your photo to Miss Janice {at} Miss Janice {dot} com. Everyone wants to see your photos!

A "Social Climbers" Giveaway

I know...Tickled Pink and Green already hosted this giveaway! Well, I didn't win, so I got the book from the author anyway:) Then I realized that 60 people had entered Tickled Pink's giveaway, so there are maybe about 58 of y'all still wanting this book!

Beth Dunn wrote Social Climbers and I have to say that I loved reading this book. I certainly can't give away my copy, 'cuz it's got all my little notes and my underlined reminders of stuff I want and things I better start doing! This is such a cute book about how to climb the Main Line. Beth Dunn takes you inside the world of Main Line society...how the ladies dress, where they shop, their fave cocktails, beauty treatments/supplies, even how they socialize. Although Miss Janice will never be an "It Girl," it's fun to read about their lifestyles, don't y'all think? Now, after reading the book, I realized that I do have some "social climbing tendancies,"...

~I love "W"
~I only use clear lights at Christmas
~My BMW is on the "acceptable vehicle list"
~I tend to think that the world revolves around me...at least I'm being honest!
~I monogram everything
~I name my homes
~I always Rsvp
~I'd love to meet Lee Radziwill
~I always was a "DLG"-Daddy's Little Girl
~I shop at Pierre Deux
~I buy all the "it" magazines

However, I'm apparently out of the loop on a lot of social climbing must do's and never do's:

~Social Climbers only drink Chardonnay and would never drink red wine in public...Oh dear, I'm in bad trouble with this one!
~I'm totally embarrassed to say that I've never heard of Essie nail polish...But, I catch on real quick and it's on my list! After reading the book, I now know the proper nail fashion etiquette!
~I'm still calling "Neiman Marcus," "Neiman Marcus"...who knew?
~I have definitely violated the sunglasses etiquette rule!
~I wear jeans...oh no, I am a loser!
~Finally, I never knew how "out of the fashion loop" I was...I have never heard of Miss Trish of Capri sandals...I know about them now and I want some!

Beth has graciously offered to provide the book for this giveaway...she will autograph it and send the book directly to the lucky winner. Here's the rules y'all:

~For one entry, leave a comment on this post.
~For two entries, make sure you are a follower of my blog.
~For three entries, post about this giveaway on your blog.
~For four entries, make sure you are a follower of Beth's blog.

The deadline to leave comments and enter is Sunday, April 26, 2009 at midnight, E.S.T. The winner will be announced on Monday, April 27, 2009.

If you don't win, don't fret...you can order the book at Beth's website here. Or, if you prefer, it's available on Amazon . Don't forget to visit Beth's blogsite as well.

I'm off to enjoy Beth's "signature drink"...The Pink Lilly. Here's the recipe y'all:

1 - 1/2 cups white rum
2 cups pineapple juice
2 cups grapefruit juice
1 cup chilled club soda
A splash of grenadine to make it pink
A mint sprig

Pour in a wine goblet and rim with pink sugar...yes ma'am, I feel very "chic" drinking this Pink Lilly! {Beth, I even used your wine goblet of choice, by Reidel}.

Note to Beth: Your humor is soooo infectious...I'm now referring to my husband as simply "husband." It's just perfect for me and husband! Yes, I love it!

Thank y'all for dropping by and good luck!

Lilly Comes to the Gardens Mall

What a beautiful day in South Florida! I attended the grand opening of the new Lilly Pulitzer flagship store at the Gardens Mall, in Palm Beach Gardens. The Gardens Mall is my new favorite mall and with the arrival of Lilly, the icing is on the cupcake!!!

As I headed toward the store, I stopped to visit the Lilly Jeep in the Grand Court. Also on display near the jeep was the "Colorful Cause Showcase." Lilly Pulitzer teamed up with nine celebrity moms and together they created incredible women's and children's Lilly Pulitzer looks. Some of the proceeds from the sale of these designs will help to generate support for EBMRF (a non-profit organization devoted to finding the cure for Epidermolysis Bullosa--a skin disease). For more information about this organization go here.

The famous Lilly Jeep...

I was so excited to get to the new store. All the clerks were soooo friendly and they were all wearing awesome Lilly outfits!! Debbie was the first to welcome me and told me how much she liked my Lilly skirt--I was wearing the Croc Monsieur pattern. She said, "You have to see the ladies room, this pattern is on the wall"! I thought, great...I'm wearing the bathroom wall pattern. So anyway, we went in and it was soooooo cute. She insisted I pose for a photo in there...

So, here I am in the ladies room at the Lilly Pulitzer store... Lord have mercy!

Here's a close-up of the Croc Monsieur fabric...so preppy and so cute!

Debbie then gave me a tour of the fitting rooms! I have nevah evah seen such cute rooms!!! They were all sooo Lilly-ish!

The first fitting room is painted with all the colors ever used for the Lilly designs...
The next fitting room is the hammock room, with a jungle theme...
The next room has the "Story of Lilly" written all over the walls...I loved one of the tags--"The Official Uniform of the Affluent." Yes ma'am!!!Now, this was probably my favorite fitting room...The "Lilly Room". The design was inspired by the famous photo of Lilly as young lady shown in this photo...
And here is "The Lilly" fitting room...Too cute, y'all!
After the grand tour, it was time to shop! But first...Champagne and Lilly-fied cupcakes!

They even have their own bottled Lilly Water...Hmmmm, now I'm thinking I simply must have my own bottled water. I could give this out as my "Friendship Gift" in July or August and people would think I am very chic! Yes, I have to get my own bottled water, just like Lilly!
What I really wanted to do was sit down on the beautiful pink sofa and watch all the excitement. I wish that I had taken more time to look at all the ladies who were shopping and see what they were wearing. That's what I like to do...look at what well-dressed ladies are wearing! But, at this point, I already felt like a stalker in the store...snapping pictures with my camera and taking notes while Miss Debbie was giving me the tour. I also wish that I had taken the time to read every word on the wall about the Lilly Pulitzer story. Anyway, it was time to get shopping and get out there--people were beginning to look at me real funny! I had so much fun looking at all the cute Lilly stuff.

Thank you so much Debbie for your gracious hospitality! You are absolutely precious and you looked darling in your Lilly skirt (I believe it's the Beverly Hills Skirt?). Now that I'm home and looking at your photo, I'm thinking I WANT THAT SKIRT! Here's Debbie offering up some Lilly-fied cupcakes...Here I am leaving the store with my Lilly goodies. No, I'm not telling you what I bought. I just realized that my blog feeds onto my Facebook page and husband is a friend. I definitely have to rethink that...Too much information is just that, too much! He doesn't need to know everything inside the bag:) Y'all know what I mean!

Miss Janice in front of the Lilly Pulitzer store...

And, "Here's What I Was Wearing"...The skirt is Croc Monsieur by Lilly, the sweater is a lime-ish green by Lilly, the tee is from Target, the Bermuda bag and lime-ish colored cover are by Lilly, and the sandals are pink and lime-ish by Bonnano's. I was wearing a gold monogrammed drop pendant and the matching drop pendant monogrammed earrings, my silver and gold Oyster Perpetual Rolex, my gold charm bracelet with charms from waaaaay long ago, and my Cartier wedding band. Here's a close up of the shoes and the bag cover...

If you live in the South Florida area, stop by the new Lilly store at the Gardens Mall on PGA Boulevard. For more information about the grand opening of this store, go here. You might also be interested in checking out the Lilly blog.

Thank you for stopping by today.

Just In Time For White-Shoe Season!

Last week I went to Stuart, Florida to check out the Bonanno Sandals store. Located in the historic downtown area, which is loaded with shops, restaurants, and art galleries, Bonanno's is such a cute little shop. Of course they carry all their famous "Palm Beach" sandals and other preppy wear as well!

I had the opportunity to meet Vivian, the owner of the store. She was so gracious and we spoke a little bit about blogging and how much fun it is. Here's Miss Vivian, dressed in a darling seersucker outfit and a denim jacket--wearing Bonanno's of course. She's so cute! Here I am with the "Palm Beach" white shoes I bought just in time for the season! Here's what I was wearing...The shift is Andry, by Lilly Pulitzer. It was somewhat cool that day, so I was wearing my black "Saks Real Clothes" cardigan. My black ballet flats are by Chanel as is the "2.55 Chanel shoulder bag." I'm, of course wearing pearls--a choker by Ralph Lauren and the matching pearl earrings, along with my oyster perpetual Rolex and my Cartier wedding band. Oh, I almost forgot...I was also wearing my gold charm bracelet with charms from the 60's, 70's, and 80's and a splash of Burberry:)

Miss Janice with her new "Palm Beach" Bonanno's...
See that print on the wall behind me? That's Jacqueline Kennedy wearing Bonanno's!!!...so very stylish! Look at the those wicker chairs...the cushions have their monogram! I want some of those also!!!

Y'all need to get your Bonanno wardrobe together for Spring and Summer. Check out all the preppy styles at BonannoSandals. If you already have some Bonanno's and are wearing them to a special event or while on vacation, send your photo to Miss Vivian at vivianb@stephenbonanno.com . You just might be featured on her site. She also has a blog, so stop in and check that out when you can.

Miss Vivian, it was sooo nice to meet you and I just love my new shoes! I think I'll wear them to the grand opening of the new Lilly Pulitzer store at the Gardens, in Palm Beach Gardens on Friday!

If The Gucci Shoe Fits...

Are you a Gucci fan? Today I'm offering these cute little shoes as a giveaway--it's not a "proper" giveaway because they are not brand new, but a giveaway all the same.

The other day I was strolling through the shoe department at Sak's and saw several pairs of shoes I wanted. Short of pitching a hissy fit 'cuz I couldn't have them all, I had to giggle when I saw these on display...
These are my shoes...they are real cute...don't you think? Well, they are a size 7 1/2 B, and I don't want them in my closet anymore...you know...just staring at me all the time like "Well, you did pay WAY TOO MUCH MONEY for me you crazy lady, so WEAR ME"! The heel is 2 1/2 inches high--that's a stiletto to Miss Janice and I don't do stilettos! I would rather give them away than throw them away, so if you want them, they are yours--to wear, to give away, or to list on Ebay--whatever!

Here's how to enter:

~Just leave me a comment on this post for one entry.
~If you follow my blog or become a follower, you will receive two entries.
~If you mention this giveaway on your blog, let me know this in your comment, and you will receive three entries.

This giveway will end Tuesday, at noon Eastern Standard Time. I will announce the lucky winner of the shoes on Wednesday, April 15th. Good Luck!

Tee Time at the Masters

Today, I am featuring a "Masters Tablescape."

One of the oldest springtime traditions in the South is the Masters Golf Tournament--The Augusta National is steeped in tradition. As the commercials say, "The Masters is a tradition like no other." I grew up in Augusta and got my "Coppertone Tan" every spring on the 16th green. Many years later, my family still goes out to the Masters Golf Tournament to enjoy the golf, the latest fashions, dogwoods and azaleas in bloom, and the food.

An Augusta National print on the wall of my husband's "Romper Room," the "16th Hole"--where all the locals hang out!

Another print on the wall...the famous "13th Hole," lined with 1,600 azaleas from tee to green...
The Tickets
The Masters badge is one of "the hardest-to-get tickets" in sports. My family has been Masters badgeholders since the 60's. Here's one of my collections on the wall in "The Romper Room"...

The Etiquette
If you are lucky enough to attend the Masters, remember to practice proper "Augusta National Etiquette."

~No running, loud talking, or yelling.
~Applaud successful strokes; never applaud or cheer the misplays of a player.
~Thou shalt not litter at the Augusta National...it is hallowed ground to golfers.
~Don't wear green on Sunday at the Masters...it's disrespectful to the golfer who will don "The Green Jacket."
~Conservative golfwear is the appropriate attire...keep it preppy!

The Green Jacket
Each year, the winner of the Masters Tournament is presented with the famous "Green Jacket." It's definitely a golden moment for the winner! He gets to take the jacket home with him and keep it for one year. Upon his return to the tournament the next year, he gives the jacket back to the club. After that, he can only wear the jacket when he visits the Augusta National Golf Club.

Here is a photo of the 2007 Masters Champion--Zach Johnson, presenting the Green Jacket to the 2008 champion--Trevor Immelman...The big question--Will Tiger win his 5th this year????
The Food
Barbeque sandwiches, ham on rye, the beer gardens...all remind me of those fun days in Augusta. But, the pimiento cheese sandwich is the crowd favorite at the Masters. The sandwich costs $1 and is considered a delicacy by the golf fans--it's simple, it's southern, and it's a tradition. Of course pimiento cheese sandwiches, cut into triangles and trimmed of crusts, are also favorites at bridal receptions, showers, and teas all over the South.

Heres some more of my Masters ticket collection, Masters cookbooks, yummy pimiento cheese sandwiches, and Arnold Palmer Iced Tea...

The Junior League of Augusta has published three great recipe books. Tea Time at the Masters, Tea Time at the Masters--Second Round, and Tea Time at the Masters--Par Three. These are all must-have cookbooks for Southern ladies and you will find a lot of recipes inside that are favorites among Augustans.

For a great snack, try a delicious pimiento cheese sandwich*, served with Lay's potato chips and an "Arnold Palmer iced tea."*

*Recipe for Four-Cheese Pimiento Sandwiches
Source: Tea Time at the Masters, Par Three

3 cups (12 ounces) shredded white cheddar cheese
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded yellow sharp cheddar cheese
4 ounces crumbled bleu cheese
1 cup shredded parmesan cheese
1 (4-ounce) jar sliced pimientos, drained
1 cup light mayonnaise
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
White sandwich bread

Combine the white cheddar cheese, yellow cheddar cheese, bleu cheese, parmesan cheese, pimientos, mayonnaise and Dijon mustard in a food processor and process until smooth. Remove to a bowl. Cover and chill. Spread on white bread to make sandwiches.

*Recipe for Arnold Palmer Iced Tea
Combine 1/2 iced tea and 1/2 lemonade in a pitcher and fill with ice. Serve and enjoy!

A Masters Tablescape
Every year my friend Teresa Jane welcomes my husband and one of his lucky friends he chooses to attend the Masters into her home during Masters week . For as long as I can remember, Teresa Jane has been hosting her "Masters Dinner," with the same delicious menu year after year.

This year Masters Sunday falls on Easter Sunday, which it frequently does. My husband decided to skip going to Augusta this year. A couple of days ago, he hosted game day/night/early morning in the "Romper Room at the Roost" to kick off the Masters Golf Tournament and play Poker, while enjoying the foods I prepared from Teresa Jane's "Masters Dinner."

Teresa Jane is an avid scrapbooker and awesome cardmaker. She designed these oh-so cute invitations for the event. The invitation is in the design of "The Green Jacket." When the invite information was removed, it revealed the recipe for the famous "Green Jacket Salad"! Aren't these just perfect for a golf event! The jacket even has the little Augusta National logo on the pocket!!!
Here's the recipe for the famous "Green Jacket Salad." The Green Jacket Restaurant was THE most popular restaurant in Augusta for many years. This is the recipe for their house salad and it is awesome! If you decide to make this salad, do not add the dressing until just before serving.

This is the menu my friend Teresa Jane has been preparing for family and friends since the 70's:

Menu

Green Jacket Salad
Teresa Jane's Barbeque Chicken
Twiced-Baked Potatoes
Easy Garlic Bread
Arnold Palmer Iced Tea
~
Par 3 Cupcakes

This dinner was served on a Poker table, family-style--which is appropriate for an informal occasion. The food was placed on the table in serving dishes and passed around by each guest. I purchased these white plates at Pier One years ago and the tumblers are from the Augusta National Gift Shop.
The centerpiece...golf balls!

The centerpiece was surrounded by Augusta National golf hats and visors...

I purchased these placemats at the Augusta National Gift Shop many years ago and use them every year during the tournment...The flatware is wrapped in Masters-yellow napkins and wrapped in a ring imprinted with the Augusta National logo...

I used more of my Masters ticket collection to embellish the place cards...

The menu, a souvenir for each guest...

The Poker table loaded with food--my husband's favorite meal...

The famous "Green Jacket" salad...

Teresa Jane's barbeque chicken*...

Recipe for Teresa Jane's Barbeque Chicken:

1 stick butter
6 tablespoons vinegar
6 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons pepper
2 teaspoons sugar

Bake/grill chicken breasts. Add all ingredients to a medium pot and simmer over low heat. You may brush the chicken with sauce while cooking and then transfer the sauce to a serving bowl at the table.

Twiced-baked potatoes--these are awesome*!

Recipe for Twiced-Baked Potatoes:

4 large baking potatoes
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup milk
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
1 bunch green onions
Garlic Salt

You may bake the potatoes in the oven at 350 degrees for one hour. (I microwave them for ten minutes) When the potatoes are done, allow to cool for ten minutes. Slice potatoes in half lengthwise and scoop out the flesh into a large bowl; save skins. Add all the ingredients except the green onions and 1/2 cup of the cheddar cheese to the potato mixture. Mix until creamy. Top with more cheddar cheese and chopped green onions. Place in the oven and bake for 15 minutes.

Easy garlic bread...

Par 3 cupcakes, with golf tees and flags...

Get Your Party Favors Y'all!
Gift bags with golf balls...what else??? I attached an Augusta National pencil to the outside--my daddy gave me tons of these Augusta National pencils years ago.

The Song
It's springtime in the valley on Magnolia Lane
It's the Augusta National and the master of the game
Who'll wear that green coat on Sunday afternoon
Who'll walk that 18th fairway singing this tune
Augusta your dogwoods and pines
They play on my mind like a song
Augusta it's you that I love
It's you that I miss when I'm gone
Well, it's Watson and Byron Nelson and Demaret and Player and Snead
And it's "Amen Corner" and Hogan's perfect swing
It's Sarazon's double eagle at the 15th hole
And the spirit of Clifford Roberts that keeps it alive
It's the legends of Arnie's Army and the Golden Bear's throng
And the wooden shafted legend of Bobby Jones.
~Sung by Dave Loggins

Here's a photo from the 80's of my best friend Teresa Jane and me at the Par 3 Tournament in Augusta...fun times!

It's definitely springtime in Augusta. My brother was at the course yesterday and said the flowers were all just gorgeous. Springtime in Augusta...nothing like it anywhere y'all!

Bunny Toile Tablescape

Here's another tablescape that I'm presenting for Tablescape Thursday! Susan, the hostess with the mostess, at Between Naps on the Porch, is hosting this awesome event again this week. Please stop in at her site and check out all the tablescapes.
It's Easter week and that means it's time for a Bunny Toile Tablescape! This is one of my personal favorite tablescapes because the china pattern looks so cute in my dining room with my toile covered chairs and window treatments. These are photos from last Easter, but like a lot of other occasions at Miss Janice's, (Christmas, Thanksgiving, et cetera) the menu stays the same!

Let's take a look...The china is Bunny Toile, by J. Willfred and the teapot, sugar bowl and creamer is the Green Leaf pattern and also by J. Willfred. The green moss charger plates were purchased at one of my favorite stores in Collierville, Tennessee--The Fresh Fruit Collection.

Easter Sunday lunch tablescape...

Easter Sunday lunch place setting...
Bunny-fied centerpiece and menu...

Most Southerners celebrate Easter Sunday with an informal lunch, served family or plated-style at the dining room table. I will be serving my lunch at the dining room table, plated-style. (In family-style service, the dishes of food are placed on the table and passed around to each guest. In the plated-style service, the host/hostess places the food on the plates in the kitchen and serves each guest from the left-hand side, beginning with the guest of honor and continuing counterclockwise, serving him/herself last).

Menu
Honeybaked Ham
Macaroni and Cheese
Asparagus Casserole
Deviled Eggs*
Croissants
Sweet Southern Iced Tea
~
Coconut Cupcakes, Coffee, and Tea

*The deviled eggs are a Paula Deen recipe for Traditional Southern Eggs:
(Makes 12 eggs)
6 large eggs, hard-boiled and peeled
1/4 cup of mayonnaise
1 1/2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
Salt & pepper
Paprika
Sweet gherkin pickles, sliced
Pimientos

Halve eggs lengthwise. Remove yolks and place in a small bowl. Mash yolks with a fork and stir in mayonnaise, pickled relish, and mustard. Add salt and pepper to taste. Fill egg whites evenly with yolk mixture. Garnish with paprika, pickles, and pimientos. Store covered in refrigerator.

Paula Deen's "Traditional Southern Deviled Eggs", served on my Arthur Court deviled egg tray. All Southern ladies have a fancy deviled egg plate...we wouldn't be caught dead without one. We have the de rigueure to-go deviled egg plates, as well! We just have to.
Dessert and tea will be served from the sideboard..."Coconut Cupcakes, Tea, and Tulips...

The party favors for Easter Sunday double as place cards. These are Martha Stewart cute little pink boxes, filled with green Easter grass and jelly beans (the good kind--from The Fresh Market).
Coconut cupcakes are another take-home gift placed on green shred inside a pink take-out box, adorned with a pink polka dot ribbon.

I am also linking this post to the "Spring Fling Event" at The Decorating Voice. Please visit the lovely site for awesome decorating ideas!

Thank you so much for stopping by today...I hope y'all have a wonderful Easter and remember to Make it Southern...Make it Memorable.
