For the Love of Checks

I have always loved check fabrics…Buffalo check or gingham check, I love them both.  I have checked linens all over my house (red and white, blue and white, green and white, and sometimes yellow and white. I have placed all the pink and white to my riff raff closet for storage). So yes. I’m a bit obsessed with check!

I have purchased a lot of checked linens from TheFoxDecor.com in the past and when I saw this cute bath rug with the red gingham ruffle, I knew I had to have it and the matching shower curtain.

Here’s a few photos of my guest bath decorated with red and white gingham and some blue and white pieces.

I’m just getting a head start in my Christmas decor!! I’ll share more of my gingham/buffalo check decor later.

Summer Porches

I snapped a photo of my front porch this morning. My porches keep getting smaller with every move.

I have a large lanai in the back which overlooks the fairway at our golf club. I decorated it with Lilly Pulitzer loot and now I’m tired of that. I still wear my Lilly, just don’t want my house to be Lilly-field anymore. I will change it up, just trying to decide how I want it to look.

It’s so hot and humid in Florida right now that I’m not using either porches. Summer has always been my least favorite time of the year. There isn’t much going on in July and August. I’m looking forward to Labor Day…football season and pumpkin-everything!

Tybee Joy’s Beach House

My friend Joy recently purchased a duplex home on Tybee Island and completely redid the interior.  The “before” photos are at the end of this post—you cannot miss them!
Joy definitely loves living a colorful life which shows in her fashion and home decor.  Her cute house just makes me want to throw all my stuff out onto the curb and start over at the beach.
I’m totally in love with the green sofa and the darling flamingo on the coffee table

She better keep her eye on that cute little pink flamingo

Love the shells and starfish inside the colorful lantern

Oyster shells—I might do this for sure.

Love the chaise and the turquoise curtains—all the colors work together to deliver a coastal vibe.

Beach chic dining.

Only my friend Joy would have a turquoise barn door to her bathroom!  How cute is that?!

Joy loves her ruffles and I love them too...very colorful and prissy shower curtain!  The bath vanity is from Ikea.

She had all the kitchen cabinetry removed and installed Ikea cabinets.

You can see by the colors in the two bedrooms, Joy loves aqua and turquoise.

And now, the “Before” photos...

I hope you have enjoyed this tour of my friend’s home.  I will be back again later with more colorful photos from the other side of the duplex.  Thanks for visiting with me today.

Buffalo Check This Out

I sure hope buffalo check doesn’t go out of style for a long time since it is definitely my home decor fabric of choice!  I live in a small home and when I get tired of my stuff, I paint it or move it around.  I also change up the colors of accent pieces and fabrics.  I use a lot of of buffalo check as you will see in the photos below and change it up from sage green, gold, navy, red, black, and pink.
The green...

The red...

The gold...

The pink.  I only have this shower curtain in pink, so I need more pink!

The navy...

The black...

I have throw pillows in all of the colors and use them during the different seasons.  I guess you could say that buffalo check is my neutral.

After Christmas

Well, all my Christmas decor is down and the house looks so bare and empty.

I decided to keep my cotton boll wreath up...for now.  I rehung it in a new spot over the sideboard.  My house has been decorated with lots of holiday decor since right after we moved in...first Halloween, then Thanksgiving, and Christmas.  So now, without the extra fanciness to fill in empty spots, I'm really going to have to focus in January to pull things together.  I can't wait to find some more cute loot to help make it warm and cozy.  There are so many places in Georgia to shop for french country goodies and the hunt is the best part!

Today I browsed through this book by Carolyn Westbrook, The French Inspired Home.   My Georgia home is ever-so humble (and that's just fine with me), but I still love to look at pretty pictures and somehow bring in little bits of french style to "The Roost." Ms. Westbrook is the author of several home decor books:  Carolyn Westbrook Home, Through the French Door, and a Romance with French Living.

If you like French decor, you will love all her books because they are all full of pretty pictures!  Thank you for visiting with me today.

Tybee Island, Georgia Tour of Homes

I'm so excited to be a docent at this year's Tybee Island Tour of Homes.  It will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2014, from 10 am - 4 pm.  This tour will feature nine properties...all decorated with a coastal/island theme.  There are quirky, funky cottages, condos, and stylish homes.  Each property will have docents on hand to tell the history of the property.  These are a few of the homes that will be on the tour:

You can purchase advance tickets online for $40 or $45 the day of the event and the price includes lunch.  This year's tour will benefit the Tybee Island Maritime Academy, The Rising TYdes Community Food Pantry, and the Fresh Air Home.

Hope to see y'all there!
