Garden and Gun Recommended...O'Steen's Restaurant

Have you seen this list?  Garden and Gun magazine has travelled the South for y'all and come up with all the best foods to eat before you die.

Lord have mercy, yesterday I was driving up the east coast of Florida on my way to visit my friend Joy and stopped in at O'Steen's restaurant in beautiful, historic St. Augustine.  Their fried shrimp is on the list!  The restaurant is smaller than I expected and was packed with a line out the door at 2pm.  Operated by Minorcan descendants, this seafood spot is definitely worth the wait.
The fried shrimp did not disappoint.  I ordered the 6-butterflied shrimp platter, which came with two sides and a hush puppy.  These shrimp definitely are a must!  The batter is very light and thin and their special sauce is the perfect condiment for dipping.  Of course the sides of cole slaw and field peas were delish!  Oh, and the sweet tea was steeped and sweetened just right!

Y'all simply must stop in and try their fried shrimp if you find yourself in the area of St. Augustine...just south of Jacksonville.  The restaurant is located at 205 Anastasia Boulevard in the scenic, historic area.   Please note if you go:  Bring cash...they do not accept debit/credit cards!

O'Steen's is also very close to the St. Augustine Outlet Mall, which is full of designer outlet stores.  I couldn't help myself and added this chartreuse Kate Spade "Quinn" pocketbook to my collection.

Hope y'all are having a wonderful day.  I'm visiting my friend on Tybee Island, Georgia before I head over to my Mama's.  Thanks for visiting with me today.

Social Graces...Southern Style--in South Florida

The Stuart Woman's Club was the setting today for my Modern Manners for Children etiquette program...
Workbooks, "Miss Janice" pencils, magnolia-motif place cards, and crayons awaited each little girl...
The dining table was set and ready for the tutorial lunch...I used magnolia motif melamine plates, with magnolia motif tumblers and goblets. (The younger girls used the tumblers and the older girls used the goblets). Custom-designed laminated placemats, with an age-appropriate place setting guide, were favors for each girl to take home, along with their place card/magnolia motif menu cards--all learning tools, plus a little something for the scrapbooks.
The Southern-style place setting, appropriate for little girls... The placemats are reversible with etiquette tips on the other side!
My assistant, a puppet named "Catherine the Mannerly Cat," is dressed wearing her pearls, waiting to greet each little girl and give them their little hanging name tags.

The girls arrived, excited to learn Social Graces...Southern Style! What a sweet group they were...I loved them all!

Of course, I have to tell y'all "What I Wore." It's important to look professional when teaching etiquette, but when I teach little girls, I try to keep my outfit a little "fun & girly!" I chose to wear this bright colored "Audrey Charmed" shift by Lilly, with a black turtleneck and black tights. Of course, I wore my pearls...just like my little assistant "Catherine the Mannerly Cat!"

My ponytail was adorned with a black grosgrain ribbon bow and I wore Ralph Lauren pearl stud earrings. I wore my Cartier roll ring wedding band, along with my Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch--had to keep track of the time! To polish off the outfit I wore these darling pearl-embellished black ballet flats, they are by Cochni. They are just too cute with this Lilly shift!

I can't say it enough y'all...I love to teach etiquette, it's sooooo much fun! This age group is such an awesome age because they just soak up everything and love it all! So, I'm off now to plan my next class! Thank you for visiting with me today.

ETIQUETTE TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR THE FALL

Etiquette with Miss Janice's Fall 2009 etiquette programs are now being scheduled. First up...Modern Manners for Children--ages 4-7.

Modern Manners for Children is an activity-oriented approach to teaching etiquette to children ages 4-7. The program is designed to foster children's growth through effective age-appropriate and play-nourished exercises. Early etiquette awareness offers many advantages to preparing children for their teen and adult years. Family involvement is encouraged through take-home handouts that reinforce and develop positive attitudes toward learning and applying good manners.

The Art of Introductions...oh-so important!
The importance of sharing and getting along with others...

Dining Etiquette...hands-on training! (Notice the little girls on the front row--legs are crossed at the ankles...yes ma'am!)
Yes little Miss, there is a proper way to eat bread...
Encouraging t-e-a-m-w-o-r-k!

Just In Time For White-Shoe Season!

Last week I went to Stuart, Florida to check out the Bonanno Sandals store. Located in the historic downtown area, which is loaded with shops, restaurants, and art galleries, Bonanno's is such a cute little shop. Of course they carry all their famous "Palm Beach" sandals and other preppy wear as well!

I had the opportunity to meet Vivian, the owner of the store. She was so gracious and we spoke a little bit about blogging and how much fun it is. Here's Miss Vivian, dressed in a darling seersucker outfit and a denim jacket--wearing Bonanno's of course. She's so cute! Here I am with the "Palm Beach" white shoes I bought just in time for the season! Here's what I was wearing...The shift is Andry, by Lilly Pulitzer. It was somewhat cool that day, so I was wearing my black "Saks Real Clothes" cardigan. My black ballet flats are by Chanel as is the "2.55 Chanel shoulder bag." I'm, of course wearing pearls--a choker by Ralph Lauren and the matching pearl earrings, along with my oyster perpetual Rolex and my Cartier wedding band. Oh, I almost forgot...I was also wearing my gold charm bracelet with charms from the 60's, 70's, and 80's and a splash of Burberry:)

Miss Janice with her new "Palm Beach" Bonanno's...
See that print on the wall behind me? That's Jacqueline Kennedy wearing Bonanno's!!!...so very stylish! Look at the those wicker chairs...the cushions have their monogram! I want some of those also!!!

Y'all need to get your Bonanno wardrobe together for Spring and Summer. Check out all the preppy styles at BonannoSandals. If you already have some Bonanno's and are wearing them to a special event or while on vacation, send your photo to Miss Vivian at vivianb@stephenbonanno.com . You just might be featured on her site. She also has a blog, so stop in and check that out when you can.

Miss Vivian, it was sooo nice to meet you and I just love my new shoes! I think I'll wear them to the grand opening of the new Lilly Pulitzer store at the Gardens, in Palm Beach Gardens on Friday!
