Cute Loot from Marley Lilly

Y'all know I love cute loot and it makes my day when the Postman delivers packages for moi! Recently, Kelly at Marley Lilly asked if I would like to do a review of some of her cute loot.  Naturally, I said "Of course!"

Marley Lilly is an online store out of South Carolina...a one-stop shop for must-have monogrammed gifts.  Kelly operates a Facebook site which y'all simply must like and she's very active on Twitter...I LOVE her tweets!

Over the Weekend

I hope y'all have had a great weekend.  My BF Miss Joy is visiting from Tybee Island, Georgia and we have doing fun, girly things since her arrival on Friday night.

Yesterday, I wore one of all-time favorite Lilly shifts in the 'Charmed I'm Sure' pattern, with a black cardi and a black pony bow.  I carried my black Chanel '2.55' with silver hardware and wore my black Cochni ballet flats, along with my pearl necklace and earrings.

When my friend pulled her car up in the front of the house, I was helping her unload her bags.  I noticed she brought a BAG FULL of flip flops.  I asked her "Joy, it's after Labor Day--why all the flip flops?"  She just laughed and said she was watching the Today Show the other day and they said it was acceptable now to wear flip flops after Labor Day.  I yelled at her and jokingly replied "Have you lost your ever-lovin' mind?  Those people are Yankees, of course that's what they are gonna say."  I then told her she was forbidden to wear open toe shoes after Labor Day at my house.  Well, this is the outfit she wore the next day...

Turquoise and lime are truly her favorite colors.  The dress is from Macy's the cardi is from JCrew.  The turquoise and lime flip flops...from her collection of over 100 pairs.  After all, she does live ON the beach!

Of course, all her jewelry was turquoise and lime...

Our first stop out was to a birthday party for 2 special girls...Leslie and Melanie, daughters of our friends Lane and Lester.  These girls are smooth operators.  They begged and received very pricey tickets to attend the Justin Bieber concert in January and promised that was all they both wanted for their birthdays.  Then it was, "We want a party also!"  Well Mama Lane put together a last-minute, tropical theme cookout for their friends to celebrate their birthdays!  Good food.  Good friends.

I took the opportunity to get some love and kisses from their Yorkie Miss Cici!

Then we were off to the Club for Charity Bunco...we lost!  Boo hiss!

Our Supper Club got together last night at The Tiki Bar in Fort Pierce.  It was a breezy South Florida evening and a great night for enjoying "Merlot Hour" and some seafood while overlooking the water.

Today we took off shopping and made a pit stop at Chipotle.  I haven't had their delicious chicken bowl meal in over 4 months.  Oh my goodness, I do love Chipotle!!!

Then it was time to do what we do best...Shop Shop!  We found some great deals at the Vero Beach Outlet Mall...J Crew, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger.  Fun times!

Fried Green Tomatoes and Comeback Sauce

Last night I was in the mood for some fried green tomatoes.  I stepped away from 'The Clean Living Diet' for a moment and tried to fry the tomatoes in the least fattening way.

I decided to follow Paula Deen's recipe for Panko Fried Green Tomatoes...baked in the oven.

Recipe for Paula Deen's Panko Fried Green Tomatoes:
1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
1/2 cup panko {Japanese bread crumbs}
1 tsp. Creole Seasoning
1 egg white
2 green tomatoes sliced into 1/2 inch slices

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil.  Spray foil with nonstick cooking spray.  In a shallow dish, combine cornmeal, panko, and seasonings.  In a separate shallow dish, lightly beat egg white; dredge tomatoes in the egg white and cornmeal mixture to coat.  Place on prepared baking sheet.  Spray each tomato with nonstick cooking spray.  Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly browned.  Turn tomato slices and spray the other side with nonstick cooking spray.  Bake an additional 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly browned.

I served some 'Comeback Sauce' with the green tomatoes and let me tell y'all, it was delish!

I fell in love with this sauce as a young girl.  When Mama and Daddy and my brother J.D. and I would make our trips from Augusta to Jackson, Mississippi to visit Daddy's family, the entire Sessums family would always get together for dinner at Dennery's in Jackson.  The 'Comback Sauce' was served along with saltine crackers as a complimentary appetizer.  Years later, as an adult, I would drive 4 hours from my home in Nesbit, Mississippi down to Jackson just to eat a Dennery's and enjoy the saltines and sauce.  Many a Southern hostess has served this sauce in crystal bowls and a plate of saltines.  It's good with all kinds of food...chilled shrimp, a green salad, french fries, fried dilled pickles, and other Southern faves.

Normally, I purchase this sauce from The Mississippi Gift Company, but it was sold out on their site.  The Mississippi Gift Company is a great online store, but I had to go searching elsewhere...

Then I tried the vendor Thames Food.  Well, Thames Food accepted my payment online for the sauce but never delivered.  After several unreturned phone calls and e-mails, I was forced to demand a refund from Paypal...all this unpleasantness against a Southern company! Of course I felt guilty, but I did not receive good customer service at all.  Even after Paypal sent me a refund, I have still never heard from the company.

Y'all know I very rarely give out this award...but, Thames Food is getting my "Miss Janice's Tarnished Spoon" award.  This type of customer service is simply not acceptable!

What to do????  I couldn't buy the sauce anywhere!  I made my own sauce!!!

Recipe for Miss Janice's Comeback Sauce:
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup chili sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
1 tblsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp spicy mustard
1 cup mayonaisse
1 tblsp ground pepper
Couple of dashes of Tabasco sauce
1/4 tsp Cajun seasoning
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
The juice of 1/2 lemon

Combine and blend all ingredients.  'Comeback Sauce' is the Table Sauce of the South!

I thought it was appropriate to wear my Paula Deen "Hey Y'all" apron to serve these delicious tomatoes!

Throwback Thursday

Oh my goodness, y'all can never say that I hold back with the tacky photos!  This was taken inside my first home in Mississippi back in the early 90's...during my second phase of the "Dorothy Hamill hairdo".  There is so much tackiness going on here...that tacky easy chair my Mama talked me into buying, those ruffled panels on the door, the country-style Christmas stockings, and that Christmas sweater!  Lord have mercy.  Now I do wish I hadn't got rid of that plaid skirt!  I would still wear it now.

More of the same...I must tell y'all that I loved these jogging suits back in the day.  My late friend Teresa Jane and I both had the same one!  We loved them and wore them all the time.  Of course back then I never jogged at all.  In fact, I was quite the couch potato.

Getting my Autumn Act Together!

This morning, I've been taking out Autumn and Halloween decos...organizing everything and planning the decos I want to add this year.  Lord have mercy, I now have just as many Autumn/Halloween/Thanksgiving decos as I do for Christmas so I'm only adding a few new pieces this year--all my decos are taking over the garage.

My Doctor told me last week that I should gain 5 lbs.  Well my land, I've certainly never been told that!  Since I've been on the "Clean Living" diet during the summer, I lost about 10-12 lbs and for my frame and height, that's probably a bit much.  Okay.  Working on that weight gain today with a scone and some of  my Apple Butter.

LOVE this apple butter for a spread on scones, biscuits, or toast.

Miss Janice's Etiquette Tip:  Remember that jellies or creams should spooned onto the plate not onto the scone.  Then use a spreader and add the jelly to only the portion of scone that you are putting into your mouth.

Hairbow Mania

Well, since I wear my hair in a ponytail every single day, I simply must have cute hair adornment stuff!  Normally, I wear grosgrain ribbon bows.  This is my collection displayed on a cute memo board in the Lilly Pulitzer 'Monkey Trouble' pattern, available at My Pink and Green Garden.  I buy my regular grosgrain bows on eBay at Heather's Hairbows.  I have to have a bow to coordinate with all my outfits!  And...like everything else, there's always room for more and now I'm into the monogrammed hairbows...a few are on the way!

Sometimes, I wear a headband with my ponytail...so, of course, I have some cute headbands to coordinate with my outfits.

When I wear a headband, I adorn my ponytail with a grosgrain ribbon bow.  I've been wearing these for many, many years!

Sometimes, I just wear my ponytail with a barrette or flower band.  At home, my hair is always up with a jaw clip!

All my hair adornments are organized in my closet...ready to coordinate with my outfits!

Hairbow Mania!  I've had it for long, long time y'all and I'm not ashamed to wear my ponytail with bows and headbands.
