SOCIAL GRACES...SOUTHERN STYLE GIVEAWAY FOR MY 100th POST!

Well, I can't believe I have published 100 or so posts! Before I talk about my celebration, I want to say that I do read and truly appreciate all of your comments to me. I won't make excuses why I'm unable to respond to every single comment on an individual basis--but let's just say I spend so much time reading interesting blogs and creating posts for my blog, that it leaves me so little time for one-to-one correspondence.

To celebrate, I want to offer a gift that will be meaningful and represent what my blog is about--Social Graces...Southern Style. I started thinking about the massive amount of e-mails I receive daily and what people want to know from moi. There's the usual dining etiquette questions, appropriate attire questions, gifting etiquette questions, et cetera. What is the question I get the most? "How do I learn about Southern etiquette?" My reply is usually to direct the person first to social etiquette books, either by Letitia Baldrige or Emily Post. Then I recommend several books written by Southern authors about Southern etiquette, entertaining, hospitality, et cetera.

I can say that I was taught all the prissy Southern stuff at early age by my mama, her lady friends, my aunts, and etiquette teachers. These books I am giving away today will definitely give you the inside information on what we Southern ladies have spent a lifetime learning!

Miss Janice's Social Graces...Southern Style Giveaway

To start, I'm including the latest copy of Southern Lady magazine--a must-read for any Southern lady! This magazine, published by Phyliss Hoffman, always delivers beautiful tablescapes, recipes, and loads of Southern lifestyle inspiration. Next, there are three books by Deborah Ford, famous for "GRITS--Girls Raised in the South." The first book is Putting on the Grits, A Guide to Southern Entertaining; the second is The GRITS Guide to Life, and the third is GRITS Friends Are Forevah. All of her books are excellent sources for those who want to learn about Southern etiquette.

The next book is A Southern Belle Primer, by Marlyn Schwartz. This is a great little book for Southern belle wannabes!

The last book is one of my all-time favorites What Southern Women Know, by Ronda Rich. You will absolutely adore this book!

I'm Out the Door...Headed to Church Y'all!

Quick post...I'm off to church and "Here's What I'm Wearing"...

This is the another linen shift from Appleseeds--the color is a bit boring for me, with the boring ivory cardigan from LL Bean over the shoulder...


After I accessorize, I like it much better. Here's a close up photo of what I'm wearing with it...My Gucci pochette and matching ballet flats (I love these shoes!), ivory color stockings, a gold monogrammed pendant and matching earrings, my Cartier roll ring wedding band, and a Chanel barrette adorning my ponytail. My fragrance and hand cream of choice today is classic Burberry--love this fragrance!For some strange reason, my photo of the shoes is blurry...the interlocking G's are not faded, no ma'am they are not:)

SHOPPING & LUNCH IN VERO BEACH

What a great way to get the weekend started...shopping at Lilly and lunch with an oceanfront view! Friday morning I drove up to Vero Beach to meet a new friend...she has asked that I protect her privacy, so I will call her "Lady J." We met through my blog and after numerous e-mails back and forth to make sure the other person had the right intentions, we both decided because of our love of Lilly, to meet and visit the Lilly store in Vero Beach--The Lazy Daisy.

We had so much fun shopping and I picked up several cute Lilly items! Afterwards, we walked over to The Ocean Grill. This restaurant has been serving locals and tourists since 1941. With it's old world eclectic charm and oceanfront views, it was the perfect spot to enjoy a light lunch. I so enjoyed getting to know my new friend over a great meal of crab cakes on a field of greens with mango salsa...yum yum!

Now, "Lady J" is a very accomplished lady; she's a member of numerous swanky clubs and organizations, has a beautiful condo in Vero Beach and and home waaaay up North somewhere. She is a mother, a daughter, a sister, a grandmother, and her husband has a very distinguished job. I was more impressed however, to hear about her love of God--she attends church everyday y'all--because she loves God! To seal the deal with Miss Janice, she is a huge Lilly lover. She invited me to visit her condo and I got to take a peek at her closet, loaded with all her Lilly. Y'all should have seen me...pilfering through her clothes!!! She said it was okay to take some photos, so, here they are...

I told "Lady J" I wanted to choose just one outfit that I really liked and display it. So, from the vintage to the new Lilly, I chose this darling shift...I believe the pattern is The Everglades Club. It's so cute! Can you believe she has these darling Lilly-fied custom hangers? They are too cute!


I have to say I had so much fun going through her closet. I think she had fun as well pointing out her favorites!

"Here's What I Was Wearing" The skirt is a pink & white gingham check skort by Lilly and the pink tee is by Lilly. I carried my Nantucket pocketbook and wore my pink Lilly mules. My ponytail was adorned with a white grosgrain ribbon bow and I wore a pearl necklace with the matching stud earrings, my Rolex Oyster Perpetual, and my Cartier roll ring wedding band. Even though there wasn't a lot of sun today, I wore my Chanel sunglasses. Lilly Wink was my fragrance of choice!

LILLY EVENT IN NYC!

Oh, how Miss Janice would love to be able to hop on a plane and attend this event! On Tuesday, June 2nd, Lilly is hosting a party with Town & Country Magazine and Brooke Shields, at the Lilly Flagship Store in New York City...doesn't this sound like a must-do! The celebration is for the launch of their limited-edition capsule collection, "A Colorful Cause." If you live near the area, you simply must take advantage of this invite!

As for moi, I'm visiting the Lilly store in Vero Beach tomorrow...possibly trying on the Brooke or the Elisabeth caftan.

My precious "Lilly Photo of the Week" was submitted by Jennifer from Biscuits Are Never Boring. This photo was taken a couple of summers ago--her daughter is on the right and her niece is on the left--the little girls were born four days apart! Jennifer said that when they were little, they always had matching Lilly.

They are just too sweet! Jennifer's blog 5Bickies is all about her family. She's a stay-at-home mom to three children and married for 15 years. She loves to entertain and you can tell by her blog that her life revolves around her family! Thank you Jennifer for sharing this sweet photo with all of us. Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

I hope y'all are having a great kickoff weekend to the Summer!

Not much relaxation for me this weekend...I've been very busy--working out at the gym, painting furniture, working in my garden, and today I attended a church I have been visiting. This was my third visit and I'm excited about this church. It's so hard to find a new church when you move to a new town! After services, I stopped by "The Square at Traditions" on the way home and tried the "Crepe Maker" for lunch. This was my first time to dine at this restaurant and I must say that I really enjoyed it.

To start, I enjoyed the Brie & Mushroom soup. It was very tasty, but I admit, I was a little shocked to be presented with a plastic soup spoon in a French bistro-style cafe. I also had the veggie crepe...The California--with pine nuts, marinated sun dried tomatoes, baby leaf spinach, tomatoes, melted mozzarella cheese, and pesto sauce.

A cup of espresso...yes ma'am!

"Here's What I Wore" today...

Y'all know Miss Janice wears only dresses to church, so I chose this cute little lime green linen shift. I purchased this shift from Appleseed's a couple of years ago in several colors and I wear them all soooo much. Since it's always chilly in the sanctuary, I wore my "Saks Real Clothes" black sweater throw over the shoulder.

Don't you just love my darling black ballet flats with the pearl adornment--I found these online at The Snappy-Turtle's website here. I carried my black Chanel 2.55 shoulder bag...with the silver chain, because the flats have a little silver ribbon attached. I wore ivory stockings...I was in church y'all--stockings are a must! Of course I wore my pearls with the matching pearl stud earrings. My ponytail was adorned with a black grosgrain ribbon bow. I did not wear my watch in church...not appropriate; but, I did wear my pearl bracelet and my Cartier roll ring wedding band. I polished it all off with a splash of Coco Mademoiselle cologne spray, hand cream, and Chanel dusting powder!
