Social Graces...Southern Style--in South Florida

The Stuart Woman's Club was the setting today for my Modern Manners for Children etiquette program...
Workbooks, "Miss Janice" pencils, magnolia-motif place cards, and crayons awaited each little girl...
The dining table was set and ready for the tutorial lunch...I used magnolia motif melamine plates, with magnolia motif tumblers and goblets. (The younger girls used the tumblers and the older girls used the goblets). Custom-designed laminated placemats, with an age-appropriate place setting guide, were favors for each girl to take home, along with their place card/magnolia motif menu cards--all learning tools, plus a little something for the scrapbooks.
The Southern-style place setting, appropriate for little girls... The placemats are reversible with etiquette tips on the other side!
My assistant, a puppet named "Catherine the Mannerly Cat," is dressed wearing her pearls, waiting to greet each little girl and give them their little hanging name tags.

The girls arrived, excited to learn Social Graces...Southern Style! What a sweet group they were...I loved them all!

Of course, I have to tell y'all "What I Wore." It's important to look professional when teaching etiquette, but when I teach little girls, I try to keep my outfit a little "fun & girly!" I chose to wear this bright colored "Audrey Charmed" shift by Lilly, with a black turtleneck and black tights. Of course, I wore my pearls...just like my little assistant "Catherine the Mannerly Cat!"

My ponytail was adorned with a black grosgrain ribbon bow and I wore Ralph Lauren pearl stud earrings. I wore my Cartier roll ring wedding band, along with my Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch--had to keep track of the time! To polish off the outfit I wore these darling pearl-embellished black ballet flats, they are by Cochni. They are just too cute with this Lilly shift!

I can't say it enough y'all...I love to teach etiquette, it's sooooo much fun! This age group is such an awesome age because they just soak up everything and love it all! So, I'm off now to plan my next class! Thank you for visiting with me today.

I remember enrolling my only daughter in an etiquette class. She loved it and I loved it as I got to dress her up (aside from church) once a week - there were four classes held once a week. I'd pick her up and ask her how it went and what did she learn. The answer was always the same: "Stuff I already know." My daughter is no fool and I guess I had/have done my job right :) She's now 19 and a beautiful, gracious young lady, if I do say so myself!

All three of my daughters too etiquette classes when they were younger. They still talk about them and say they use the information they learned then now as they turn into young ladies and new mommies.

Looks like a very fun class. I'm thinking about doing a much simpler version for the girls at my chursh. I have to ask though - why no tablecloth? Is that part of the class? I know little ones sometimes have a hard time knowing how to handle it in their ap. Just curious. :) Thanks!

Oh, Miss Janice! I think this is such a wonderful thing you're doing teaching little girls etiquette. This is so missing today among so many! Aren't they cute! Love your little helper and the precious little name tags. You're really good at this. Am I surprised? No no Nannette, I'm not. Now look at your darling outfit and those shoes. I love those shoes! I'm sure every tiny little peeper was on your cuteness and they were all coveting those shoes! ;)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

I had to come by to tell you that I was in Dillard's today (because I have a dish and Christmas problem), and I saw these salad plates and immediately thought of you. They are preppy green and white salad plates with a monogram. They even had a 'J'. They were so you! Silly me didn't take a camera, but if I go back anytime soon, I'll e-mail you a photo. They are truly delicious - (yes, plates can be delicious) LOL! Hope you're doing well. I've got to go and work on my ark...we're getting drenched!
P.S. The little girls are too cute. Love the dress too.

What a special event for the little ones! Do you have classes for big girls too? :) I would have loved this when I was little. They are just precious!

This post brings back a lot of great memories. My Mother sent me to several of these classes when I was a little girl. I loved getting dressed up and going to them.

Thanks for posting it!

I love it all! I think etiquette is so important to learn while young. Calc has never been handy in my adult life but etiquette is used daily. Not that I think kids should skip math class. But I do think they should have more opportunities for etiquette and cotillion classes.

And I ADORE your shoes!! Hopsy has a similar pair and I have been on the hunt for something like them ever since she blogged about them a year ago.
