Lord. Have. Mercy. All the preps on Twitter are in a tizzy! Marley Lilly is offering Monogrammed. Belly. Button. Rings. on their site!
I have featured many products on my blog from Marley Lilly and adore all her preppy loot! {I always keep an ever-growing wish list}. When I heard about the the belly rings this morning, I knew I had to share them with y'all.
Marley Lilly is the go-to site for all the pink and green preps to buy all things monogrammed...from monogrammed floppy hats, monogrammed hair bows, beautiful monogrammed clutches, and now to...
The Monogrammed Belly Button Ring!
The belly rings are made of stainless steel and the monogram charm is made of sterling silver. Of course, you will need to polish the sterling charm just as you would your grandmother's silver! The belly button rings are priced at $29.99 and you have a choice of the pink crystal, blue crystal, or clear crystal.
I don't have any tattoos on my body and the only body part I have pierced is a single pierce on both of my earlobes...and my daddy liketa killed mama for letting me do that! Well, y'all know my fashion rules are very old fashioned. I mean, I agree with Coco Chanel that wearing black to a wedding is still in bad taste; perhaps it's like wearing white after Labor Day, a tradition left over from the era when ladies wore white gloves.
So to me, it's all kinda like the ankle bracelet...I've never worn one and never will. But, that doesn't mean they aren't cute. Brighton has adorable ankle bracelets, but they are just not my style. I have numerous friends who have tattoos and some friends have belly rings *clutching my pearls real hard now*.
I did find this article by Lisa Birnbach, author of True Prep and she addresses the "Principles of Preppy Styles," and 'belly-button piercing'.
What say y'all? Are you giddy to wear the Monogrammed Belly Button Ring or are you "Clutching your pearls?" Remember your manners, no need to be rude!

Miss Janice, I am in the "clutching my pearls" group! I love a good monogram and ML but this is a tad too far for my personal taste!
This is tacky, tacky, tacky... I'm sure you will have LOTS of opinions from both sides of this issue.
I am clutching my pearls, too! This is too much!
Ok, I love them, however I am way too old to have my belly button pierced!

Definitely clutching my pearls!
I'm appalled. What's next kappa gamma nose rings? I have this image of elderly ladies forty years from now discussing their tattoo removal at tea. Tacky.
Another pearl-clutcher here! I'm with you on piercings, tattoos, and ankle bracelets -- all tacky to the max!
Miss Janice,
As I sit, reading this post and really laughing out loud at the picture in my mind of you clutching your pearls, I must admit, I am not a tatoo or body piercing person. I have many friends who are(or were, in their day). Working for a plastic surgeon, all these years, there are many people who spend a lot of money to have things removed! I guess our 'tastes' change. Mine have, but thankfully not at such a price.
Thanks for the laugh,
Warmly, Kathleen
I clutched my pearls at first when my then 18 year old daughter got her belly button pierced. That was her "I am off at college now" statement of independence. I am no longer panic stricken over it. IF you must have a belly ring, monogrammed is the way to go. Since I am a regular Marley Lilly customer, I am sure I will be purchasing one for my daughter since thankfully, the only time her "ornamentation" shows is at the beach or pool.
Clutching my pearls and thanking the Lord above that neither of my daughters have ever asked, let alone wanted to pierce their belly button. Just not my style...
Signaling the decline and fall of civilization as WE know it.......
Monique,
I must say that you have me laughing! The monogrammed nose rings will probably be next!
Miss Janice
I just want to make this perfectly clear that I will continue to shop with Marley Lilly. Love the products...still clutching my pearls though:)
Clutching the pearls....no belly button piercings here! But at least if you change your mind about this you can just stop wearing your belly button ring, most people would be none the wiser. A tattoo is another matter altogether!
My daughter had a belly piercing at one time. Thankfully she's since gave it up. Now if only I could do something about the tattoos.....oh my life!

Oy, I'm clutching my pearls right along with you, Miss Janice. I have been having an email conversation with another blogger regarding the decline and fall of civility. This post provides another topic for us to discuss.

From Deeda Blair to Belly rings- what a wide gap in a day!!! lol. Sadly, this is the direction America is going in. Extra sad when it has trickled down to the monogrammed/preppy consumer.

My pearls are clutched so tightly they might just break!! I absolutely LOVE anything monogrammed ~ or I thought I did until your post. Now I'm just praying my 5 little granddaughters don't grow up so quickly!!
Merciful heavens! My hand is on my throat. What is this world coming to? I don't get all the body piercing and such even if it does have monogrammed bobbles hanging from the holes.
I am clutching those pearls with white knuckles. No body piercing going on in my little world.. no, no.
I grew up in another generation and those things would clash with my Weejuns.
My daughter, a KKG, pierced her belly button freshman year but has come to her senses.
