What's Mlle. Coco Chanel Wearing on the 4th of July???

Mlle. Coco Chanel says "Happy 4th of July y'all!!! "Here's What Coco's Wearing"...

A darlin' patriotic doggie dress, with an ivory satin bow...do you love it??? I can't help it...she's just too cute!

"HERE'S WHAT I'M WEARING"... An aqua capris set I purchased in a little boutique in Palm Springs--many years ago. I still love it!

Great summer print...

Love the ric rac...

I'm wearing aqua slide pumps and carrying my Billie Ross of the Palm Beaches pocketbook. I'm wearing my Chanel silver earrings and Chanel ring, my 'Return to Tiffany' bracelet by Tiffany, my 'Oyster Perpetual' watch by Rolex, and my roll ring wedding band by Cartier. My ponytail will be adorned with a white grosgrain ribbon bow and I'll be wearing my sunglasses by Chanel. The fragrance choice for the day is 'Wink' by Lilly.

We are spending the weekend here in Port St. Lucie with our longtime friends Jan and Mark Taylor. If you have been following my blog for a while, you know that my friend Jan is battling liver cancer. We are happy that her scans are showing that the tumors are shrinking!!! YAY!!!

Since I'm relaxing with them this weekend, I'm re-posting my 4th of July post from last year...A party I hosted on the porch, here at "The Roost."

My front porch is a great area for entertaining--very laid back and relaxing--perfect for a casual patriotic dinner celebration! I used a combination of red, white, and blue tableware to bring together the patriotic look. This was a seated, informal meal, served plated-style.

The menu consisted of: Cocktails, boiled peanuts, honey mustard hot wings, Memphis-style barbecue sandwiches*, savory baked beans**, Southern-style potato salad, iced tea, watermelon, and festive cupcakes.

I surrounded the chrysanthemum centerpiece with the patriotic figures, which were purchased at TJ Maxx last summer. The buckets, containing sand and the sparklers, were found at Target in the $1-ish section.

Cocktails are now being served y'all...
The patriotic plates and the red rattan chargers were purchased at Hobby Lobby last summer. The white melamine plates were purchased at World Market. I've had this white flatware for years and just hot glued the patriotic stars onto the handles for a festive look.
The iced tea mason jar-style mugs were purchased at Cracker Barrel.
The iced tea dispenser was purchased at Dillard's a while back.
The patriotic napkins and napkin rings were purchased at Dillard's...a while back.
Boiled peanuts...now y'all know I have to serve boiled peanuts in the summertime!
Watermelon...you simply must have watermelon during the summer!
Festive cupcakes...These are the Martha Stewart cupcake cups & flags--love them!

*Recipe for Memphis-Style Barbecue Sandwiches
Born and raised in the deep South, I like to think I'm a connoisseur of barbecue. I have always compared any barbecue with Sconyers Bar-B-Que in Augusta, Georgia--the world's best barbecue--in Miss Janice's opinion! (If you ever visit Augusta, you simply have to go to Sconyer's)

Many years ago when I first moved to DeSoto County, Mississippi (a small community just south of Memphis, Tennessee), I ordered a barbecue sandwich in a barbecue restaurant. I was asked if I wanted cole slaw and I said "Yes." Well, that's when I found out that cole slaw is served on the sandwich--Memphis-style, and not on the side. Try it y'all...you will love it. So the recipe is...

Pulled pork, cole slaw, and barbecue sauce all served on a hamburger bun...barbecue sandwiches, served Memphis-style.

**Recipe for Mary Gibson's Savory Baked Beans
1 16 oz. can pork and beans
2 tblsp. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. dry mustard
1/4 cup catchup
2 slices bacon, cut in 1" pieces
Combine ingredients. Bake uncovered in a greased cassserole at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Uncover and continue baking for 20 minutes.

Baked beans...I can't make 'em pretty, but I can make 'em good!
Southern-style potato salad...

Floridians love Hurricane Wings--honey mustard flavor! Husband loves these:)

Don't forget your party favors y'all! Since July 5th is "Cracker Jack Day," I did my patriotic duty and gave America's favorite snack--Cracker Jacks as party favors. The boxes were wrapped in cello with red, white, and blue shred and tied up with festive garland and a patriotic gift tag...Cracker Jacks, an American favorite for over 100 years!
Leftovers...Like Mama always said, "Now y'all come in here and take some of this food home with you"! You can put some leftover food in a tupperware container, on a paper plate covered with aluminum foil, or you can wrap it up to go in style. Take it home y'all...
Take-home box embellished with red gingham ribbon and a summertime gift tag...

"Here's What I Wore Last Year"...VERY casual day--a white polo shirt and madras capris from TJ Maxx.
A few accessories...Navy Polo flip flops, a navy cap monogrammed in white, and a white grosgrain ribbon adorning my ponytail. I wore my Cartier roll ring wedding band and gold button earrings, and a quick spritz of Lilly 'Wink'.

Thank you so much for stopping by today. I hope y'all have a great 4th of July weekend.

Very cute table. Love the cupcakes. Did you make it through the meal without spilling any bbq sauce or baked beans on that white shirt? :)

Miss Janice --

Love your porch entertaining (wish I had one - but it was probably too hot here on the 4th). I never knew that the cole slaw on the bbq was considered "Memphis style" - we do that here in Virginia as well! We also had pulled pork for our guests on the 4th but didn't "sandwich" it- and I was so glad to have found out about the vintage Cracker Jacks at Walmart from the "blogworld" - everybody seemed to enjoy taking one home and the boxes brought back childhood memories. After the party was over and the guests had left - I remembered we forgot to cook the fresh corn on the cob - so we'll be eating corn all week at out house.
Found a can of boiled peanuts at Publix when we went to Atlanta last weekend (it was a "mission" after your post) - haven't tried them yet though -- my whole family made "faces" when I told them about them - So I guess I'll get to try those all by myself! LOL
Have a wonderful week!

What a beautiful table setting. Your menu sounds delish. I never knew that slaw served on a BBQ sandwich was called Memphis-style. I had never heard of a BBQ sandwich WITHOUT slaw until I moved to Birmingham, AL. Those people don't know what they are missing.

What a beautiful party! We had a bbq on Friday and I also used patriotic plates and napkins! Mine were paper products though! :)

I've never made pulled pork, but I love it! I need to try to make some on my own. We served ribs for our bbq and they were great. I was so glad because it was my first time making them!

I agree with Belle, you certainly should write a book (or two!)!

Oh Miss Janice! Everything looked wonderful! I know you must get tired of hearing me say the same thing but I am at a lost for new words...wonderful just sums it all up!!!
I had to giggle when I read your baked bean recipe! My ex boyfriend (I really emphasize the EX) loved my baked beans. He would kind of hang around when I was preparing them. I had a sneaky suspicion that we were not going to make it as a couple so I would not share my recipe with him. I ACTUALLY would bring things out of the cabinet that did not go into the recipe to throw him off (ie. Worchestershire sauce, Cheyenne pepper, Dill, etc..) it is kind of funny, I never did give him the recipe but I did give him the boot!! LOL Forgive me if I had already shared this story with you it is just so funny!
Have a great day!!
Love Lilly

Your tablescape is stunning. I went to Hobby Lobby the other day and saw nothing close to your pretties. They had Fall things stocked on the shelf already.
The food looks so inviting. I'm sure your guests had a wonderful time with you as the hostess.

You are such a wonderful hostess. Another fabulous porch party.

Around here, we eat coleslaw on BBQs, but we call it a Pig Special. And have you ever tried to get a Yankee to eat boiled peanuts? I have stories.

Miss Janice, what a lovely "shingdig" you had last 4th. If I am correct I save it to my "Miss Janice Entertaining" folder.

My question is quite different from others comments. Where do you find Mlle. Coco Chanel's adorable outfits. My Miss Belle is looking for some outfits to update her wardrobe and the outfits you have pictured lately are just adorable. Miss Belle has enjoying seeing the pictures herself. I just can't find quality outfits for her. Please help!
