Friendship Gifts for the Summer

My "Friendship Gifts" for the Summer are a traditional Southern snack...Peanuts and Coke! Growing up in the South, this was one of my favorites. Any true Southerner knows it's a wonderful treat, although some won't own up to it, 'cuz they think it's kinda trashy!

It must be Real Coke, in the 8 oz. glass bottles. A can Coke or Coke in a plastic bottle just won't do...and no Diet Coke either!!!

The peanuts must be Lance peanuts...roasted and salted.

I found these cute little straw baskets awhile back at Michael's. They are the perfect vessels to hold my Summer "Friendship Gifts".I added some red shred to the baskets and tied my signature gingham ribbon bow onto each one and, voila...an inexpensive, yet fun Summer treat for friends and those who visit me at "The Roost"!

So how does one drink Coke with peanuts? Pour a few of your peanuts into your Coke and munch the nuts while you sip the Coke. Try this in front of Yankees and watch their reaction! They will think you have lost your mind. HA! Let the Summer begin!!!

I love this! I haven't seen Coke in a glass bottle in ages though. It was probably as long ago as the last time I put peanuts in my pop! Yes, I admit I did it :)

Oh Janice! I forgot about peanuts and coke together! It's been awhile. I only have one friend in my current phase of life who would "get it". :) Such a cute idea.

YEE...HA..!
I, too, grew up eating and drinking this southern treat. I still do it.
I never thought of giving them as gifts but WHAT A GREAT IDEA. You are just full of them, sweet lady.
And, you NEVAH just eat peanuts then take a drink of coke. No sir ree..you pour those babies right in that glass bottled coke and YOU ARE IN HEAVEN.

What a delightful gift! You've got me craving a coke with peanuts. I've got to pick up some groceries this afternoon, so I've added Cokes in a glass bottle and peanuts to my list!

This brings back memories of traveling from Georgia to SC to visit relatives and my daddy would always stop at the "filling station" and buy this for me and my brother. Sometimes he would surprise us with a moon pie too!! Ah...memories!

Oh how my Grammy Leonna LOVED the Cokes in the glass bottle as does my Mama. I do believe this is just toooo cute for words. What is it about those glass bottles. Even my daughter adores them, a MUST for sleepovers here!

Nice gifts!!! That brings back memories. I can remember the Lance man driving around town on his rounds when I was a teenager. Imagine my surprise when years later I mention at work that I saw the Lance man at Walmart in the Lance section and a co-worker says that he's her grandpa!!! lol.

My daddy used to pour his peanuts in his coke all the time. It is definately an old southern thing to do this.

My Southern-born daddy got me to love this treat. Every once in a while, I give it a shot (when I can find Coca-Cola in glass bottles). Everyone up here in Indiana looks at me like I'm a total weirdo, but I'm all, "Don't knock it till you try it."
