FRIENDSHIP GIFTS FOR THE SUMMER

Just the word moon pie conjures up fond memories for many Southerners. The iconic Southern snack is simply a graham cracker cookie with marshmallow, drenched in chocolate--and shaped like the moon! Growing up in the Deep South, the moon pie was a staple in my lunch bucket everyday.

If you are a new visitor to my blog, I must explain that I love to have "Friendship Gifts" on hand to offer to guests who visit my home...sometimes, I offer these gifts as "last minute hostess gifts", or just a "happy." My "Friendship Gifts" for the summer...Moon pies on a stick, wrapped in cello paper, and tied with pretty blue ribbon embossed with a fleur de lis...It's a Southern thing y'all! (Only 220 calories, with 6 grams of fat)
Love the fleur de lis ribbon...

A smaller version of the original moonpie is now available...it's a moon pie crunch, with mint! It has 170 calories and 8 grams of fat, but a lot of Southern goodness!
I wrapped some of the small moon pies, for those watching their calories and for the youngins'!

Bring on the summer...Moonpies and an RC!!! (Most likely a diet-caffeine-free coke for moi!)

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

Oh, yum, yum! I can't imagine summer without at least one moon pie, just sitting on the porch with my soda pop...Love your basket, Miss Janet, and that beautiful ribbon. You have THE best ideas!

That's just too much fun!!! I have never had a moon pie so I will need to look for them the next time I am in the US...have you ever had a Mae West? Those are my fave!

I love the ribbon - High Heeled Life gave me a gift and it had that same ribbon on it - I tied it onto my notebook :O)

I love Moon Pies! What a fabulous friendship gift, fancied-up Moon-Pies! And the mint ones! I must find these! Surely, if they have them in FL, they have them in GA.

My grandmother (who lived in Greenville, SC) always had RC Colas for us to drink in the summertime. Miss Betty was a Coca-Cola (pronounced "Co-Cola") woman all the way.

Younger daughter adores Moon Pies...and has a birthday coming up. You have just given me a grand idea!

PS> Miss Janice, if you look at my Twitter page, you will see all kinds of pics I took for you at "Sur La Table" this weekend. It was roosters galore in there!

My pantry stays stocked with moon pies, especially vanilla ones, for the fabulous five ~ won't they be impressed when Mimi "fancies" them up like Miss Janice (except I'll have to use a pink ribbon & put them in their "Treasure Boxes"). You're just full of wonderful ideas ~~ that's why I LOVE your blog!! Hope you don't mind me being a copycat sometimes! And I'm off tomorrow to find the mint moon pies. Your basket is adorable!!

What a darling (and clever) happy! Love the friendship gift idea, and your post reminded me of my sweet Mississippi mother-in-law who frequently gave me "happies."

VERY cute idea Miss Janice! You're right that Fleur de Lis is wonderful! I'll have to think about what I can do for my summer friendship gifts now. I usually only do them for the holidays, but I love this idea so much, you've inspired me! Hope you have a wonderful Tuesday!

I just found your blog and love it. I am from South Carolina originally now living in NE Florida. Southern gal to the bone. I share in your idea of a friendship gift. I call them sursies. A sursie to me is a present, a surprise, a gift from the heart, just because..there is no because.

Miss Janice, I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoy your blog! What a "sweet" friendship gift to have on hand.....those moon pies. May I ask, did they come on a stick or did you get the sticks separately? I love the pretty little ribbon you added. I want to use the idea for my 4th of July guests and use a little patriotic ribbon. Thank you.

Hattie,
I bought the moon pies at Cracker Barrel, got the sticks at Michael's and placed the sticks inside the moon pies, then wrapped them in cello wrap and added the ribbon. How cute would these be for the 4th of July?!!!

I haven't seen the mint moonpies...but then I don't think I've been in the grocery store since Memorial Day weekend. Thank goodness Hank doesn't mind running errands like that on his way home!
