A sweet Southern tradition on Mother's Days in the South...ladies are given a red corsage if their mama is still alive and a white corsage if their mama has passed away.
Make your mama's day special by preparing a Brunch just for her...I used a silver plate is used as the charger plate and the china is 'Accoutrements', designed by Anna Griffin for Lenox. The goblet is the 'Alana' pattern by Waterford, and the silver napkin rings are monogrammed, of course!

Beautiful table. I'm getting ready for a tea myself. I had forgotten about the white and red corsages - I remember handing them out at church as a child.

This is a real sweet posting. Yes.. be nice to your mama very day. Mine is gone now and I'm sure others have lost their mamas too, so instead, pick out a favorite aunt to honor or an older friend who perhaps doesn't have anyone nearby.

I am so pleased to read that others are continuing the tradition of the Mother's Day corsage that honors one's mother by the color of the flower.
That tradition was very important to my dad when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s. He had been raised in southern Ohio, the lacey northern fringe of the South. Daddy would select the flowers from his own garden, red for us children and our mother and white for him.
When I married and had my own children, I kept the tradition going. Now they are all grown and have their own homes and choose what traditions to continue there. I keep the tradition going still (I must be the only one in the upper midwest), however my flower now is white while my husband's is still scarlet.

I flew home this weekend to surprise my mother! Also, it was my father's birthday (he was born on his father's birthday and Mother's Day that year!), so it was a double surprise!
I didn't know about the coursage tradition, so I think I will implement it into my family next year!
