Mothers are the most important people in the world. If you are lucky enough to still have your mama, please honor her everyday and make this Mother's Day special for her. In the South, ladies judge a gentleman by the way he treats his mama. I can tell you that my brother loves and respects our mama and treats her like she's the Queen. He's always driving Miss Pauline all over the place (to church on Sundays, to the beauty shop for her standing appointment every Friday morning, shopping, et cetera--mama loves to scoot)!
~Make it Southern~
A sweet Southern tradition on Mother's Days in the South...ladies are given a red corsage if their mama is still alive and a white corsage if their mama has passed away.
Make your mama's day special by preparing a Brunch just for her...I used a silver plate is used as the charger plate and the china is 'Accoutrements', designed by Anna Griffin for Lenox. The goblet is the 'Alana' pattern by Waterford, and the silver napkin rings are monogrammed, of course!Youth fades; love droops; the leaves of friendship fail; A mother's secret hope outlives them all.

Happy Mother's Day to all y'all!
Have a wonderful Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteMiss Janice,
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely place setting and a lovely Southern tradition!
Wishes for a wonderful weekend!!
Beautiful table. I'm getting ready for a tea myself. I had forgotten about the white and red corsages - I remember handing them out at church as a child.
ReplyDeleteLove the colors and tablesetting!
ReplyDeleteThis is a real sweet posting. Yes.. be nice to your mama very day. Mine is gone now and I'm sure others have lost their mamas too, so instead, pick out a favorite aunt to honor or an older friend who perhaps doesn't have anyone nearby.
I do love Mother's Day!
Have a wonderful weekend.

Hello Miss Janice,
ReplyDeleteI am so pleased to read that others are continuing the tradition of the Mother's Day corsage that honors one's mother by the color of the flower.
That tradition was very important to my dad when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s. He had been raised in southern Ohio, the lacey northern fringe of the South. Daddy would select the flowers from his own garden, red for us children and our mother and white for him.
When I married and had my own children, I kept the tradition going. Now they are all grown and have their own homes and choose what traditions to continue there. I keep the tradition going still (I must be the only one in the upper midwest), however my flower now is white while my husband's is still scarlet.
Happy Mother's Day!
Just beautiful my friend...May you have a GREAT Mothers day...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
ReplyDeleteI hope your day is filled with love and laughter!
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day!

You are so right on the adage: You can always tell a lot about a man on how he treats his mama!
ReplyDeleteI'm hosting brunch for my mama and MIL on Sunday. Can't wait.

Beautiful table, Miss Janice!

As we all know...you never know how much you love someone until they are gone. I wish my Mother was still here with me. She was the best!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reminder of our Southern Traditions! A happy mother's day to your mama.
ReplyDeleteI flew home this weekend to surprise my mother! Also, it was my father's birthday (he was born on his father's birthday and Mother's Day that year!), so it was a double surprise!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about the coursage tradition, so I think I will implement it into my family next year!
Hi, Miss Janice,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! Thank you for encouraging good manners.
My pet peeves are all the ones mentioned....failure to r.s.v.p., not writing thank you notes, the cell phone issue, call-waiting.....one other...people chewing gum in church.
That's a wonderful giveaway. Thanks for entering me.
Have you ever posted your recipe for mac n cheese? Would love to have it!
