Julie is Lilly

Whoa! These hot summer days are making me very lazy!!! All I want to do is sit around with a glass of ice tea and read all y'all's blogs!!!

I'm getting ready for a fun 4th of July weekend...good food, the beach, the pool, and good friends.

I wanted to show y'all a couple of photos that just say "Summertime." Julie at BrownEyedBelleJulie sent me these precious pictures. She recently attended her cousin's wedding in Mrytle Beach, South Carolina. This darlin' dress in the 'Shorely Blue Silver Dollars' print by Lilly is perfect for a beach wedding...comfy, stylish, and a classic look. Julie accessorized the dress with white sandals, yellow shell-motif earrings, and a Kate Spade straw clutch pocketbook.

In the ocean...at Myrtle Beach!!!
Thank you Julie for sharing these photos with us! You look adorable!!!

Thanks to all y'all for stopping by today. If you would like to have your photo dressed in Lilly featured on my blog, e-mail them to me at Miss Janice {at} Miss Janice {dot} com.

HAM BISCUITS & HOSTESS APRONS

Just keeping it Southern y'all! Tonight, I'm serving my friends ham biscuits and iced tea...with grace and style. Yes, I'm a Foodista and I've got a darlin' apron collection to prove it!!!
I'm wearing a hostess half-apron in the 'Gigi Toile' pattern by Jessie Steele. I don't believe this pattern is available in the half apron anymore, but I think they carry the full apron at BedBath&Beyond.

Love the pattern! The prissy girl primpin'...
The prissy girl walking her prissy dog...

The prissy girl shopping...with a schlepper, of course!

Serving ham biscuits and iced tea...from the Secretary!

Silver Pitcher Iced Tea*...a awesome recipe from my BFF Teresa Jane

Ham biscuits are at home on the table at any Southern soiree...
Plates with a Parisian scene, from Mikasa...

It is perfectly proper to place your drink on your plate, along with a ham biscuit while standing and socializing. Remember do use the "three finger rule" when eating a sandwich...use your thumb, the index finger, and the middle finger and take dainty bites!
If you are holding only a beverage, keep it in your left hand so that your right hand will be free to shake hands with others...

"Teresa Jane's Silver Pitcher Iced Tea":
Bring 1 gallon water to a boil. Add 3 family-size tea bags and steep for 3 minutes. Discard the tea bags. Add 2 cups sugar, stirring until dissolved. Stir in 3/4 cup white grape juice and a 1-1/2 oz. packet of lemonade mix. Chill for 3 hours. Serve over crushed iced and add fresh mint.

I love to serve my guests Southern food with a Southern-style! And...I always make sure I wear my pearls with my hostess apron!

I'm wearing my white Bonannos and carrying my cute straw basket purse, with a teal grosgrain ribbon bow. My jewelry...pearl necklace and pearl stud earrings, 'Return to Tiffany' bracelet by Tiffany, a Chanel charm ring, and my rollring wedding band by Cartier.

I'm keeping this blog post simple...trying to catch up with reading y'all's blogs!!! Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for stopping by!

WHERE ARE MY MANNERS?!!!

Please excuse me, as I have failed to properly introduce to y'all my Yorkie, Mlle. Coco Chanel. Miss Coco was born in Palm Springs, California; she has walked the beaches of both the east and west coasts, shopped in Saks, Neimans, and other Coco-friendly stores...she loves an outdoor cafe and just prissin' around! Of course she has a darlin' puppy wardrobe, full of cute and preppy clothes and also has a large collection of designer collars and leashes. This little girl gives sooooo much love and is the sweetest dog ever!!!

The photos below were taken yesterday while she was trying to decide what to wear to go on a picnic with her mama...she said this little dress was just too prissy for the day.
Her pink polo...just too hot mama!

The pearls...just right and just like mama!!!

I set up for the picnic right outside Tradition Town Hall...
Near the lake so we could take a quick dip...

I made sure to pack some goodies for our first picnic of the summer...

Now y'all know Miss Janice isn't gonna eat out of a brown paper bag and that my wine goblet must be monogrammed!

Yum yum...chilled fruit and cheese and fresh french bread...

I would never forget my little Coco's food & water...of course she has her own napkins!

What a wonderful day!!! Relaxing on the quilt with some of the latest Hollywood magazines and Miss Coco! I'll leave y'all with a photo of Coco Chanel modeling her winter coat...she and I have the matching little jackets:)

Thank you for visiting with me.

In her "WASP Wednesday" post last week she featured her very own charm bracelet. Miss Beth's gold charm bracelet...

Here's Miss Beth relaxing outside during a recent posh trip to Beverly Hills.

The NEW People of Walmart

If you can be ready to leave the house in less than thirty minutes, you probably shouldn't be leaving the house at all!!!

Earlier this evening, I needed to go shopping at Walmart. Yes, I most certainly do shop at Walmart...I shop everywhere. I'll admit that some stores provide a little more excitement for me than others, but shopping is just plain for me.

There has been a lot of publicity recently about the website PeopleofWalmart. While I won't copy any of the photos from that site, I will just tell you that they are all pretty much ridiculous. I'm not laughing at the way that other people dress, but certainly feel some of those people in the photos featured on the site should have looked in the mirror before they left home!

Now the Walmart where I shop is one of those fancy Supercenters and it's real clean and neat. There are no houligans running around screaming, no merchandise strewn all over the floor, and (some say, due to the economy) you will see many BMW's and Mercedes in the parking lot!

"HERE'S WHAT I WORE" The classic shift in green with pink palms is by Lilly as is the pink cardigan with palm print. The pink flower thongs are also by Lilly. I wore a Lilly-fied flowered ponytail holder, a pearl necklace, pearl stud earrings, and my rollring wedding band by Cartier. I carried my Nantucket pocketbook and my fragrance of choice was 'Wink' by Lilly.

Love this pattern...perfect color and print.

Of course, the bows at the hem are a must for Miss Janice!

Love the palm needlework on the cardigan...

Of course, I stop at the sanitizing stand to clean my cart...ewwwwww~

Walmart is a great place to find Paula Deen cookware!
Loved all the 4th of July partyware they have and loved the price also!

I've got my eye on this baby...
Beach reading material... I must read about Prince William's girlfriend!!! Lord have mercy, is the Star reporting that she's pregnant????!!!

Loaded up the trunk with a few fun goodies...LOVE my new hot pink beach chair!!!

That old saying "If I keel over in Walmart, please drag my body to Neimans" doesn't really apply to me! I'm not ashamed for anyone to know that I shop at Walmart! However, I think that just because people are shopping at a discount store doesn't mean they have to show up there lookin' like something the cat drug in!

Thank you for visiting with me and I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!

BON APPETIT LE CORDON BLEU!

Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Miami is associated with the famed Paris Cooking School, Le Cordon Bleu. The college in Miami (actually it's in Miramar, Florida), features an on-campus, open-to-the-public restaurant--Tropibleu, that is run by the students and professors of the college, who prepare and serve the meals.
Recently, I enjoyed a great lunch here...very upscale, modern decor...

"Here's What I Wore." The shift is the 'Tutti Fruitti' by Lilly and the white summer cardigan is from Land's End.Love the fruit slices in the pattern...

I wore my white Bonanno sandals and carried a Lilly bermuda bag with a bright yellow cover. Along with my rollring wedding band by Cartier, I wore a silver choker necklace with a monogrammed pendant, the matching earrings, and ring. My ponytail was adorned with a white grosgrain ribbon bow, I was stylin' Chanel sunglasses, and my fragrance of choice for the day was 'Wink' by Lilly.

After such a wonderful meal, I was totally inspired to get out all my Le Cordon Bleu cookbooks and study up! I have taken many cooking classes at The Viking Cooking School in Memphis and also the old 'Forty Carrots' kitchen store location. Although I would love to attend the Le Cordon Bleu, but dare not inquire as to the tuition cost to do so..."husband" would absolutely kill me:)

First up...Le Cordon Bleu, Complete Cooking Techniques. This is an excellent book for those who are just starting to learn French Cooking. It covers every technique you will need to know to prepare classic recipes.
Le Cordon Bleu, Quick and Easy...This is another great book for the starter French Cook. It contains easy recipes that don't contain such high fallutin' ingredients, but taste awesome!

Le Cordon Bleu, At Home contains the actual curriculum taught at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. This book is a must-have. It has 90 lessons, each with a complete menu. Amazing recipes, detailed technique photos, and simple instructions.

Thank you for stopping in today. Bon Appetit y'all!

I'M A GEORGIA PEACH!

Sweet Georgia peaches...

Yes, I am a Georgia Peach! Born and raised in Georgia, I grew up with a love for peaches.

Fort Valley (Peach County), Georgia is celebrating the Georgia Peach Festival, June 11th-19th, and you can bet my mama will talk my brother J.D. into driving her over...if only to get some fresh Elberta peaches. The purpose of the festival is to honor peach growers for their contribution to the Georgia state economy. There will be concerts, an arts & crafts show, fireworks, food, and of course the de rigueur parade featuring the Miss Georgia Peach beauty queens.

Here are the winners of the Miss Georgia Peach Pageant 2010...they are soooo pretty!!
From left: Junior Miss Georgia Peach - Lizzy Stanford of Cuthbert; Miss Georgia Peach - Lauren Arnold of Blakely; Tiny Miss Georgia Peach - Lucy Luttrell of Warner Robins; Teen Miss Georgia Peach - Lindsay Dobbs of Perry; and Little Miss Georgia Peach - Mariah Percival of Bonaire.

A Southern tip: Remember that fresh Georgia peaches are available only 16 weeks each year...from Mid-May to August.

Peach cobbler is an old-fashioned Southern dessert and one of the most popular Southern comfort foods. It's been a Southern staple for generations and I'm celebrating peach season and serving "husband" some peach cobbler, using the recipe my mama prepared for so many years..."Miss Pauline's Peach Cobbler."

Now y'all, Southern Living magazine is featuring "Mama's Way" or "Your Way" peach cobbler recipes this month. Since I simply cannot compete with the picture-perfect peach cobbler featured on their June cover, I''ve prepared mine "Miss Pauline's" way!

"Miss Pauline's Peach Cobbler"

"Miss Pauline's Peach Cobbler" recipe:
1 egg
1 cup sugar
3 tblsp. flour
1 stick margarine (melted)
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 large can of peaches
Strips of bread slices

Mix the first six ingredients together in a large bowl. Place the sliced peaches in the bottom of a greased baking dish. Pour the mixture over the top of the peaches. Place the strips of bread on top and bake at 350 degrees until brown. Serve with vanilla ice cream...oh-so Southern and delicious, also!!!

Enjoying some peach cobbler this weekend on the front porch at "The Roost"...
Still celebrating National Iced Tea Month...perfect time for some peach-flavored iced tea!

What is the proper way to eat peach cobbler with ice cream???
If you were just served the peach cobbler, you would use a fork. Of course, if you were served only the ice cream, you would use a spoon. When there is a dessert fork and spoon placed on the table, you know you are in for a real treat!! So the cobbler and ice cream would be eaten with a fork and a spoon. The fork is held in the left hand (prongs down) and the spoon in the right. The fork only serves as a pusher. Then, you eat with a spoon. When using a dessert spoon, remember to take small portions and eat only from the front of the spoon.

It's peach season y'all...Bon Appetit!!! Thank you so much for stopping by to visit with me!
