I attended a wine tasting yesterday at the Bedford Park Clubhouse in Tradition.

Here's my contribution to the hors d'oeuvres table...
Garlic Chicken Puffs. You can make 32 puffs with 2 cans crescent rolls, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 cup shredded chicken, and 4 oz. cream cheese. I baked them on 2 baking sheets for 15 minutes at 375 degrees. *I found this recipe last year on Pinterest or somewhere...can't remember! If it is your recipe, thanks!
If I'm being honest, I must say that these puffs are very good
fresh from the oven--not so much 2 hours later.
I chose
not to take my favorite house wine 'Oak Leaf' merlot...from
Walmart. I thought people would think it was tacky!!! I ended up buying this South African Shiraz at
The Fresh Market. The label states "it goes well with snacks at sundown."
My friend Stacey Gilfillan was the organizer of this event and she did a fine job! Thankfully, we ended up with a wide variety of hors d'oeurves...'cuz wine tasting on an empty stomach is not a good idea.
These are the silver trays for each guest...complete with a tasting goblet, cocktail napkin, pencil, and score sheet. Stacey found the cute magnets...great idea to keep the wind from blowing away the score sheets!
We graded each wine {white and red} either Excellent, Good, Fair, or Yuck! I must confess in the beginning a lot of wines received 'Yuck'. Getting tipsy does seem to impact your judgement...so towards the end, they were all good!
Each table's host poured a sample of all the wines {covered with a brown paper bag and labeled with a number}, beginning with 8 bottles of white and ending with 15 bottles of red!
Each guest was served a plate of fruit, crackers, chocolate, nuts, and cheese to cleanse the palate.
In the center of each table there were water bottles...y'all know you should drink as much water as you do wine. The little buckets were used as
dump buckets. If you do not like the wine, you pour it into the buckets...it is perfectly acceptable! There was also a pitcher of water to rinse your goblet after each tasting.
Being that I am not a wine connoisseur, I was happy to see there were
not a lot of wine snobs at this event! Inexpensive white wines took 1st and 2nd place, with cash prizes and "bragging rights" going to the people who brought them.
The winners of the reds...my Shiraz was "Yuck"!!!!
Then it was home to prepare a quick dinner for husband and watch some football! What to fix? I decided on
Barbecue Baskets. This is a recipe from
Publix Simple Meals. I enjoy tasting the sample meals when I shop at
Publix and this is one of their recipes...very simple: 1 {12 oz} container cooked shredded chicken, 1 {10 count} can buttermilk biscuits, 3/4 cup barbecue sauce, 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Coat 10 cups of a 12-cup muffin pan with spray. Place each biscuit in one muffin cup. Press the biscuit down and also press it up the side of the cup to form a crust. Mix the shredded chicken and barbecue sauce and pour into cup. Top with cheese and bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes on 400 degrees.
A little messy, but it's quick and good y'all!
Gameday Meal...
Yay! Florida State beat Clemson 49-37!!!!!
Fall is here y'all! Hope you are enjoying the first weekend of the season.
Adorable outfit!
ReplyDeleteI love that your table host was a guy in a Harley Davidson tshirt :O)
I used to only drink Italian wines...but in the last few years then have been soooo many great wines coming out of South Africa...I almost exclusively drink them when I have a glass of wine.
Oh Miss Janice...the best thing about your wine tasting had to be your outfit! It is presh! Wine gives me a whopper of a headache, so I stay away! Now those little BBQ baskets look tasty!

Great fun! I've done quite a few wine tastings here in Virginia and they're always enjoyable. You really must try some of our product! You look terrific here too--great boots, and I love the cable sweater tied around the shoulders. :)
