Fewer and fewer people celebrate May Day anymore. I think it's such a sweet tradition (bringing in May) to create a May Day Basket and leave it on someone's door handle--just ring the bell and run! You can give them to friends, family, or elderly neighbors. The basket can be of any shape or style and contain flowers, cookies, candy, or maybe even tea and scones. Here's one of my May Day Baskets. I used a green toile container, added some fresh spring flowers, and a green gingham ribbon to tie the basket to the door handle...
very simple...very Southern.
Since it's the first day of May, I thought I'd also show y'all my "Friendship Gifts" for the month--Mint Julep teabags. They are inside the cute little thatched-style, cottage boxes and wrapped in cello, then tied with spring-ish gingham ribbon...
definitely Southern.
Thank you for stopping by today. Remember, it's the little things that you do for others that makes the day
special and memorable.
I love your May Day gifts and your May treats! Thanks Miss Janice!
ReplyDeleteLeaving flowers on May Day had slipped my mind, how fun, we'll have to do this!

ReplyDeleteI love the idea of May Day. It's not at much of a tradition in New England. I think because it's still a bit chilly up here most of May.
ReplyDeleteOOOH Miss Janice, I love the May Day Treat Bags!!! ADORABLE! My Mom always celebrates May Day. She said that use to you didn't wear your sandals until May Day. HMMM??? Anyway, Happy May Day to you! Nancy

ReplyDeleteMiss Janice without you I'd forget all the rules.....I gotta go do the basket for my elder couple neighbors and one for the widower across the street!
ReplyDeleteSuch great ideas!
I always loved the tradition of May Day. I had planned to make a May Day "May Pole" cake as well as some flowers to neighbors I don't know. Unfortunately, way too much to do this week.
ReplyDeleteI love your friendship gifts as always. Do you just have these sitting on the table for when friends drop by or do you actually hand them out to friends?
I totally agree! Love that sweet basket...sounds like something I would do, but the MI people wouldn't quite understand the southerness of it! It's quite gloomy up here today...50's and a bit rainy. Thanks for brightening my day.
ReplyDeleteIt is the little things we do that shows we care. have a lovely weekend Miss Janice.

ReplyDeleteWe love May Day Miss Janice, but you are correct, no one seems to celebrate much anymore. :(
