Deeda Blair

Trying to find style icons for the grown-up girl is not easy!  One of my all-time favorites is Deeda Blair.  The epic socialite is not only known for her fabulous fashion style, but also her impeccable gray hairdo, and most importantly her work as a medical philanthropist.

Not surprisingly, Harper's Bazaar named her as one of the most stylish women of 2013.

Ms. Blair was born in 1931 and grew up in Chicago, attending parochial schools and then on to a two-year junior college.  She lived a vigorously social life and after a disastrous first marriage, she married her true love William McCormick Blair, Jr.

For 37 years Deeda Blair hosted stylish parties in her Washington, DC home.  Her and her husband now reside in New York City.

Although she has been a smoker since the age of 14, Ms. Blair swims daily--keeping her head above the water so as not to mess up her big hairdo!  To help keep her slim figure, she follows a low-carb diet.

Ms. Blair loves Chanel, Givenchy, St. Laurent, as well as designs by American Ralph Rucci.  She would rather have very few clothes and have them be as wonderful as possible.

With her trademark hair, wearing a Ralph Rucci gown.

How beautiful is Ms. Blair's master bedroom in New York...with the hand-painted French curtains?

Although I won't be wearing the fabulous designer ball gowns, I do love to follow ladies who have classic style.  As you can see, her style hasn't changed much since she was young.  Classic style endures the test of time!

So great to see a real "socialite" than one of those celebrities that call themselves socialites. She is so classic.

Miss Janice,
You're so right, there aren't too many style icons for 'ladies' to follow. Although, we don't have her lifestyle, it is wonderful to see and learn from these classy women.(I actually didn't know of her).

Warmly, Kathleen

Very nice! She has great hair indeed. I always love that WASPy swept-back-off-the-forehead look. And the outfit at far right in the first frame is killer.

Thank heavens that a truly elegant style lasts. In a world filled with tacky reality tv stars as supposed 'icons', what a pleasure to see a real fashion icon. Thanks for sharing.

In the same vein, but more contemporary and relaxed in style, is Lee Radziwill. And wearing her elegant, God given 80 year old face! Magnificent!

Yes, she is very much a class-act. We miss her in Washington. Her son, William, Jr. had a successful dog-walking business in Georgetown. He left for California to start that same business, but sadly too his own life very shortly after.

My mother named me Deeda after seeing a picture of "the most beautiful young woman" in a newspaper . This was in 1950. I have always thought the young woman was Deeda Blair but not sure. The only copy of the newspaper photo we had was lost. Would love to know if she had a photo released to newspapers in 1950 while she was in Washington DC. If anyone can help, please post.
Thank you.

Refined, elegant woman with beautiful sense of style not overdone as some women are today. She has a disciplined, Audrey Hepburn look.
