Keeping it Southern Y'all!

Last night we prepared pork chops on the grill. I served them with with fresh corn, green beans, and Mama's homemade potato salad.

My apron is red gingham with a skirt of little red flowers, trimmed in more red gingham! I purchased this from a street vendor at the Mt. Dora Spring Festival...

The red rooster bowl is the Country Living 'Feathered Friends' pattern, available at KMart!
Recipe for Miss Pauline's Potato Salad:

Potatoes
Eggs
Mt. Olive Chopped Sweet Salad Cube Pickles
Chopped Vidalia Onions
Salt & Pepper

Wash, peel, and cut up potatoes, then boil until soft. Drain the potatoes. Meanwhile, boil the eggs and chop. Add the chopped boiled eggs to the potatoes, along with Mt. Olive chopped sweet salad cube pickles and chopped Vidalia onions. Stir in the Duke's mayo; add salt & pepper. Serve warm!

You must use Duke's mayonnaise {never evah use Miracle Whip--that would be tacky}! Duke's mayonnaise is a must-use ingredient in potato salad and no other mayo was ever allowed in my Mama's refrigerator. Duke's Mayo is a longtime Southern favorite...whether it's spread on the sandwich bread of a BLT, used to prepare homemade pimiento cheese, cole slaw, or of course, potato salad.

The Bread and Butter pickles by Mt. Olive are the go-to pickles for Southerners. They are Picklicious y'all! These pickles are so tasty with potato salad. Of course the pickle/relish dish is a de rigueur item on the bridal registry of savvy Southern brides.

Keeping it Southern...Ladies in the South would never dream of serving potato salad on their good china--it's a very casual food y'all!

After dinner we watched the World Series of beauty pageants...the Miss USA pageant! Lots of Southern states were represented in the finals...Miss South Carolina, Miss Alabama, Miss Tennessee were some of my favorites. Congratulations to the new Miss USA 2011, Alyssa Campanella from California. She is very beautiful and her evening gown was absolutely gorgeous!

Miss Janice, you're potato salad looks delish!(and so do you in that adorable gingham apron!!)
I don't believe we have Duke's up here in Canada but with such a great recommendation, I will be on the lookout for it in August when I come south.

I didn't get a chance to watch the pageant last night but was following along with your tweets so I would be kept in the loop!
Hope you have a marvelous week!

Duke's is the ONLY mayonnaise I use! Made right here in my home state - Virginia!!

That potato salad recipe sounds wonderful. I love Vidalia onions, but I don't think I've ever put them in potato salad. I do agree with you on the Duke's, though. It is a must. Even the northern grocery chains that opened down my way have figured that one out!

Great potato salad recipe, however, it's Hellmann's at my house when it comes to mayonnaise. Or if you have time, make homemade.
Mt. Olive pickles are the pickle of choice though.
Bon Apetite to you!

I really need to stop by and read your blog more often! I have never paid any attention to what kind of mayonnaise - I buy Kraft like my momma, but she was raised in NJ! And I live in Virginia. I'm going to have to pay attention the next time I'm at Harris Teeter. And I believe I'll be on the lookout for a pickle dish the next time I'm at the antique mall...

Yummo!! That dinner sounds great. You know I love potato salad (our blog challenge) and yours sounds wonderful. Gotta have those Vidalia onions!! We have to agree to disagree on the mayo tho. .lol. I'm a Hellman's girl. But NO WAY can I eat Miracle Whip like Petey can!! Love the cute apron too!!!

My mother uses a similar recipe for potato salad. She leaves out the onions and puts in just enough mustard to make it pale yellow. We eat potato salad on china at Christmas. That's because we changed our menu a few years ago to include ham, potato salad, pickles, chips and brownies. We always eat off of the Christmas china. We know it is a no-no.

Amen to the "Duke's", made in the great southern state of Virginia. Richmond, to be exact. There is just something about 'Duke's'. It has a saltier, tangier taste than others. I can always tell the difference.

My, my! I must make some of this potato salad! Where EVER will I find Duke's in Southern California? I may need you to send me a jar, Miss Janice! ;)

Love your apron and LOVE that Miss California won (although, I will admit I thought Miss Tenn was prettier!).

I would nevah...evah...use anything but Duke's mayonnaise! Another one of those wonderful things we have in the south!! Had a follower tell me she could only find it in New York in a gourmet food shop....now imagine that!!! :)

I love good potato salad. I agree about Duke's and it's made right here in Richmond, Virginia!

I agree 100% about Duke's being the perfect mayo. It's richer then the rest. The only one that comes close to it is Blue Plate mayo.
