LILLY PHOTO OF THE WEEK

Oooooh, I just love this photo...sent in by Betty Lou at TheCompanySheKeeps. The occasion was her friend Effie's wedding in Greenville, South Carolina. That's Betty Lou on the left, Mr. Lilly Lover in the center, and Kelsey on the right. Betty Lou was a bridesmaid and dressed accordingly, Mr. Lilly Lover is looking oh-so debonair and preppy in his Lilly Charles Blazer-Patched, and Kelsey is wearing Saemus Dress Silk Twill--she's also carrying the Lilly Metallic Mizner Clutch.

"The Lilly Photo of the Week"
Betty Lou has an awesome blog. She's young and beautiful, she's a Law Student, a runner, and she documents the company she keeps, her colorful life, and how to "Wear it Well"! I just love that she likes to "Shop like the bill isn't coming"! Yes ma'am, I love that! Stop in over at her blog TheCompanySheKeeps--you will love it!

I WILL REMEMBER YOU!

Can you believe three cultural icons have died in the last three days?

First Ed MaMahon died on Tuesday at the age of 86. Famous for being Johnny Carson's sidekick on "The Tonight Show" for 30 years, how many times have we heard...."Heeeeeeeeere' s Johnny!" To be honest, I never really connected with "The Tonight Show" after Johnny and Ed left . Rest in peace, Mr. McMahon.
This morning, Actress Farrah Fawcett passed away at the age of 62 after a long and brave battle with cancer. Her gorgeous blonde hair and fabulous body gained her the title of "Sex Symbol" during the 70's. Although I loved her in "Charlie's Angels," I thought she was awesome in "The Burning Bed!" I recently watched the documentary "Farrah's Story" was very inspired by her will to fight to live! Rest in peace Miss Farrah!

While I was tweeting about Farrah and watching the coverage of her death on headline news...CNN reported that the LA Times was saying Michael Jackson was dead. WHAT? After many reports from different sources...I found out it was true! Like most of the world today, I'm not totally shocked that he may have had health problems, I am however, saddened and stunned by his death!

My very first concert was to see "The Jackson Five" in Columbia, South Carolina. Needless to say, I loved his music...all of it. What was my favorite M.J. song? "BILLIE JEAN"---I loved and still do love that song! Of course, I love "Off the Wall," "I Want to Rock with You," and "Thriller"...but that "BILLIE JEAN"...just loved it! Michael, "I WANT YOU BACK!" Awesome performer and awesome music! May you rest in peace!

My question to you today...What is your fave Michael Jackson song?

Here's Michael Jackson...photo from "Billie Jean".... "She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene..."

LILLY PHOTO OF THE WEEK

Look at these two precious little girls...Arianna and Isabel, of Naples, Florida. This photo was taken on a cruise ship recently--the family sailed to the Bahamas and of course the little girls just had to have their hair braided. How cute are they in their matching Lilly dresses? Their mama Genevieve sent in this photo...she's expecting another little girl in August...to be named "Lily!"

"Lilly Photo of the Week"

Thank you so much Genevieve for sharing this darling photo!

LILLY PHOTO OF THE WEEK

I just love the photo I'm featuring this week. It's ThePoshMomma (a private blog read) and her Twincesses--the photo was taken this past Mother's Day. They are all wearing the Multi School Patch Fish dresses by Lilly. Posh Momma's necklace is by KristinPearce and the little girls clearly want it!

I just love the "Posh Momma's" site...she comes up with the best "Posh Momma Rules!" All y'all mamas out there know it takes a lot these days to be a "Posh Momma." This young lady definitely pulls it off with the help of God and her family. She is married to a man who is her best friend and has been since she was 12 years old! Together, they are raising these precious little Twincesses.

"This much fabulousness does not come by accident. It is not something you are born with. It is effort. 200% effort 24 hours a day."
~The Posh Momma

IT'S FLAG DAY...SO IT MUST BE MY BIRTHDAY!

It's Flag Day y'all! The American flag is our primary national symbol, and it should be displayed with respect. So, I simply must address Flag Etiquette.

~When the flag passes by, Americans should either stand in silent respect or place their right hands over their hearts. I was taught as a young girl to place my hand over my heart and that is how I salute the flag now. Don't you just hate it when professional athletes don't salute the American flag or show respect during the national anthem?
~A flag should only be flown from sunrise to sunset.
~A flag should never touch the ground or water.
~When a flag is so tattered and worn that it is unfit for display, it should be destroyed in one piece, privately and by burning.

During your patriotic celebrations, remember the words to the Pledge of Allegiance.
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Yes, I was born on Flag Day! It's my birthday! It's my birthday! I LOVE THE LIFE I'M LIVING Y'ALL!

Husband is buying me the iPhone...need that! We are driving down to Miami for the day...Note to self: Bring spanish-english dictionary! We are going to have some fun...drivin' by the very first house we ever owned in Kendall (it was decorated in a Gucci theme y'all, I promise), having some dinner, and meeting up with a few long-time friends. It's a very casual day and "Here's What I'm Wearing"... The dress is a Cape Cod Blue Fresh Fish Krista dress, by Lilly and the white sweater throw is from Land's End. I'm carrying a small Chanel white pocketbook and wearing my pearl necklace. The shoes-- white Stephen Bonanno sandals. I will of course be wearing my Cartier roll ring wedding band, along with a gold Channel bracelet, and my pearl stud earrings. My ponytail will be adorned with a white grosgrain ribbon bow and after a spritz of Lilly Wink and some Lilly Wink hand cream...I'm Out the Door, y'all! It's Party Time!Thank you so much for stopping by today. Please remember to honor our national symbol...The American Flag!

I'm Out the Door!

Today is "Errand Day" for me...You know those days--getting in and out of the car a million times to get things done! My list is soooo long...

~Mail my swap package to Preppy 101 and hope that she likes it!
~Mail a "Happy Gift" to my neighbor in Mississippi and hope that she likes it!
~Banking
~Pet Store--all three of my pets need their own special food
~Pier One--return something cute that was the wrong color
~TJ Maxx--return something real cute that was the wrong color
~Lunch...somewhere, probably my standard--Panera Bread Pick Two
~Walgreen's
~Lowe's--get more plants for garden
~Check out information at AT&T on the new iPhone coming out on the 19th
~Get the BMW washed, if it doesn't rain!

So, here's what I'm wearing...The white linen capris and mustardy-yellow linen blouse are both from Chico's. Yikes...this looks shabby and boring on the hanger!

So, of course, I'm gonna accessorize it to the hilt! I'm wearing my Christian Dior kitten heel thongs and carrying my Christian Dior tote bag; a choker necklace with another monogrammed pendant--this one is silver trimmed in gold and has the matching monogrammed earrings. I will wear my gold charm bracelet, my Chanel #5 charm ring, my Rolex Oyster Perpetual, and my Cartier roll ring wedding band. My ponytail will be adorned with my Chanel barrette. My fragrance of choice today will be Burberry cologne and hand cream. My lipstick is Hot Coral by Revlon and nail polish is Sunsparks by Revlon. Of course, I'll be wearing my Chanel sunglasses.

I hope that y'all are having a wonderful day! Thank you for stopping by:)

LILLY PHOTO OF THE WEEK

Here's the "Lilly Photo of the Week." This photo was sent in by Meaghan Bever. These are the great grandchildren on her father's side of the family having fun at the pool during her grandmother's 95th birthday party. It looks like to me a few mamas got together and made sure their children were "decked out" in proper preppy pool wear! They are all wearing Lilly "Blue Ice Botanical Garden" swimsuits...aren't they just too cute y'all!

Thank you Meaghan for sharing this precious family photo. I'm sure these children helped to make your grandmother's 95th birthday even more special!

Don't forget to e-mail me your Lilly photo...Send it to me at Miss Janice {at} Miss Janice {dot} com. Thank you for stopping by today.

How Was Your Weekend?

Mine didn't start out too good:( On Friday afternoon, I stopped in at Starbuck's and let's just say I was not happy when I left. Then there was a monogramming disaster on a really cute dress of mine...not happy with that either! Things got better on Saturday. I worked in the yard for most of the day, then I blogged about Iced Tea and Boiled Peanuts. I did eat a lot of peanuts y'all!

Sunday morning, I attended the first church I visited when I moved here. There's Church "A," Church "B," and Church "C." Church "C" is the closest to my house and I was hoping to like it, but did not. Church "B" is the one I visited many times, but I am now liking my original choice, Church "A". So, it just may be Church "A" for moi.

"Here's What I Wore"...
This is a very Churchy-like suit, by LeSuit. It's linen and very comfortable during the hot weather.

I carried my black Chanel 2.55 pocketbook, with the silver chain and wore my black Ferragamo pumps, with the silver bit. I accessorized with silver jewelry...the silver choker is engraved and I wore Chanel drop pendant earrings. I wore a Tiffany bracelet and a silver Chanel wide band ring, as well as my Cartier roll ring wedding band. My ponytail was adorned with a black grosgrain ribbon bow and I chose Coco Mademoiselle as my fragrance and hand creme...all just very Churchy-like!
After church, I had lunch at home, made a visit to the gym to workout, came back home and got dressed for a neighborhood cookout.

"Here's What I Wore"...
The Pink Resort Capris are by Lilly, as is the Pink & Green Rugby Polo striped shirt. Very preppy...very comfy!

This was a tres casual event, so I wore my Loopy Lilly 50th Jubilee Pool Party flip flops. I wore the silver Chanel drop pendant earrings, the silver monogrammed choker, my Cartier roll ring wedding band, and of course, my Chanel sunglasses (not shown). My ponytail was adorned with a pink grosgrain ribbon bow and my fragrance was Lilly Wink.

This was a covered dish event and I was asked to bring a salad. Not wanting to prepare a dish loaded with mayonaisse, I decided to bring two fresh salads. Look at these cute pink bowls...from Target. They were in the $1-ish section. I just love them!

This is "Miss Janice's Salad"

Recipe for Miss Janice's Salad:
Mixed greens
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1/2 cup glazed pecans
3 1/2 oz. reduced fat, crumbled feta cheese
Trader Joe's Red Wine & Olive Oil Vinaigrette

Mix all ingredients together and serve with dressing.

This is "Miss Janice's Summer Salad"

Recipe for Miss Janice's Summer Salad:
Butter lettuce
2 ears of corn
1 cup shredded carrots
1 cucumber
1 cup cherry tomatoes
Ranch dressing

Cook the corn, shuck, and cool. Peel the cucumber and slice. Mix all ingredients together and serve with dressing.

Thank you for stopping by today. I do hope y'all have a wonderful week! I'll be back next with another "Lilly Photo of the Week."

SWEET TEA AND BOILED PEANUTS

I've been doing yard work all day long and I'm ready for a glass of iced tea...on the Porch--at The Roost! The little tea towel is an inside joke with friends back in Mississippi!
The lazy days of summer are here! Sunny days at the beach or lake, taking in a movie at a nice cool theatre, relaxing on the porch under the cool breeze of a ceiling fan...with a good book...

June is National Iced Tea Month
In 1904 a gentleman by the name of Richard Blechynden was trying to sell his hot tea at the World's Fair in St. Louis and because there was a heat wave, no one wanted any, so he added some ice and iced tea became popular. Like most Southerners, I began drinking iced tea at a young age. Iced tea is considered the beverage of hospitality, the table wine of the South, and sometimes referred to as the champagne of the South.

Take the heat out of your summer, slow down, and join me in sipping some great iced tea! Today, I'm enjoying a longtime Southern favorite, Lipton Iced Tea.

The Southern Country Caviar
What goes well with iced tea in the summertime? I'm lovin' some boiled peanuts! Pronounced "bald peanuts" below the Mason-Dixon line, boiled peanuts are an acquired taste, but to Southerners, they are addictive. They are a true Southern delicacy and most Southerners would tell you to enjoy them with sweet tea, a coke, or an iced cold beer!
If you are from the Deep South, you've no doubt driven by "Boiled Peanut Stands" on the side of the road. Everybody loves 'em-I know y'all have bought them on occasion! If you can't find a roadside stand, you can buy them canned (available at Publix, Walmart, et cetera). They may be eaten straight out of the can or placed on a plate and covered with a paper towel, and heated in the microwave for 30 seconds. You may also make your own...here's a recipe.

Recipe for Boiled Peanuts in a Crockpot:
1 1/2 quarts raw uncooked green peanuts
1/2 cup salt
2 1/2 quarts water

Wash the peanuts well. Place the peanuts into the crockpot, add the salt and water; stir. Cook, covered on high for 5-7 hours. Add more water if necessary, to keep the peanuts covered.

Miss Janice's Summer Friendship Gift
All my summer houseguests will receive a can of boiled peanuts as my friendship gift throughout the summer. What an easy way to say "Welcome" to guests and give them a little bit of a Southern delicacy to take home! Here's my "Friendship Gifts" for the summer:
Very easy...very Southern!
Thank y'all for dropping by today. I'm off to relax with my sweet tea and boiled peanuts...the whole can, by myself--yes ma'am!
